A lot less dust in the house. In the long run much cheaper than regular replaceable filters.

I have always used K&N Air filters for my cars and they worked very well but when I came across this filter for my air handler, I just had to try it. Picture in the desciption is accurate. The filter i received is exactly what is pictured. Also included were some screws that were included just in case protruding screws were used in your system, you could remove them and use the provided flush sitting screws. I felt that was a nice touch and well thought out by K&N to include it just in case improper screws were used in the filter area of your air handler. As is typical with K&N air filters, there were more pleats than your typical filter. More pleats means more surface area to capture particulate and not impede air flow. The filter medium is PMMA which is an synthetic polymer/acrylic glass fiber material which is dense and durable with good filter efficiency. The is an air flow arrow on the filter so you know which way is the proper way to install it. Unlike their car filters, this required no oiling! Big win there!I have been using it for 6 months now and it has been working great. Cleaning it is quite simple. Simply vacuum off as much debris as possible (on the inlet side of the filter), then i personally lean it against a chair on my patio, with the outlet side pointing towards me, and gently spray from left to right starting from the top and going down. (They do sell a cleaner for it, but mine has not gotten stained or anything where I needed to use a cleaner other than water so far.) I do this a few times and then turn it so it's still leaning on the chair but only a single corner is touching the ground. I put a piece of rubber there so as to not damage the frame. Doing this allows all the water to go down to 1 location which helps it dry faster. Do not do it when it's windy out or you'll just end up having the wind blow dirt back onto the filter. Once it's dry you can put it back in. Being that it's a synthetic fiber, it will dry faster than organic media such as cotton. The only CON i feel is i would like the frame to be a little more rigid. This is subjective and did not affect the rating because the filter does exactly what it says it does. It does come with their usual limited lifetime warranty so that's a big plus. Overall, it works great for me and i'm very pleased that I purchased it.

I am a long-time user of K&N filters in my cars so knowing the outstanding quality of their automotive products, it was a no-brainer to buy a K&N HVAC filter. My old electrostatic filter also had a lifetime guarantee, but for some reason it began to emit a constant clicking sound which apparently was caused by a constant static discharge. The opening in the HVAC return duct is 18" x 30". The K&N filter is approximately 1/2" short in both dimensions, so it lay loose in the housing, unlike my old electrostatic filter which was a perfect press fit into the 18" x 30" opening. I had a roll of 1/2" tape-backed open cell foam door weatherstripping, so I snipped a few 1" pieces and taped them on to all 4 edges of the K&N filter which now allows it to fit snugly in the return duct housing. Because the sides of the K&N filter are made of plastic, if the foam weather stripping loses its elasticity, it should be no problem to peel them off and replace them with new foam strips. The K&N filter requires periodic cleaning using their K&N branded HVAC cleaner which I purchased. The chemical agents in this cleaner are very similar to the K&N cleaner for their car engine air filters, perhaps more diluted in strength as engine compartments are far dirtier and contaminated with oil-based pollutants.I haven't had the K&N HVAC filter long enough to clean it, but that shouldn't be a problem. From what I've read, a day or two is required to allow the filter to fully dry after cleaning with water and a cleaning agent. It's a good idea to have a 2nd filter handy when the K&N filter is drying out. I kept my old electrostatic filter expressly for that purpose. Folks that don't have a 2nd filter might consider buying 2 K&N filters and rotate and clean them every 2 months.I'm happy with the purchase. We'll see over time if this is truly a product that lasts a lifetime.

I have been buying throw-away filters for years now. Mine are 10x24x5 i size, about $25 each one. I replace these filters 2 or 3 times a year depending on how much we run the fan on the house. This adds up over the years. Circulation of the air by the fan cleans the air with the filters but it makes them dirty faster. I cringe when I grab one from the store shelf each time. I found K&N brand makes air filters for home as they do for cars. The K&N filter is only 1 inch thick, so I had to create a brace to hold it in the larger space I have for the present one. The rating of filtration is higher than the one I normally buy. So the filter catches more particles from the air, so its a step up. The frame is made of a sturdy hard plastic. I know it will not bend or crack while inserting or removing it from the furnance. I have confidence this will last me many years of use without issue. The filter design is very similar to the car engine filters. Which I have for my own cars. I bought the filter when my car had 23K miles, it now has 300K and still using the same filter. The beauty of this filter is you can clean it. Directions are super easy to follow. You must purchase of separate bottle of cleaner spray but it should last multiple applications. There are drain holes in all corners to allow water to drain out. With the plastic frame, no worry of it rusty out. I plan to wash it in the spring and and fall, it would be 3 new regular filters costing over $60 for the year. Even with the additional purchase of the cleaner bottle. This filter will save me money after a year of using it. No more running out to the store to buy filters. No more having to store extra filters, all you need is the one that is reused.

When I put the paper filter in our hearing return I always have to squeeze the paper frame. This filter fits perfectly. All filter manufacturer state that the measurements are smaller because of variations on the filter housing manufacturer tolerances.Anyway. K&N ships the filter with extra screws should the excising mounting screws of the return housing have screws that stick out. That was the case for me. The filter wouldn't fit because it hit the mounting screws.I replaced the 4 screws one by one with the screws that came with the filter and all fell into place. Our frame has little taps that can be bent out in case the filter is smaller to prevent the filter from bouncing around. There are some reviews mentioning the noise when the filter moves. Perhaps they overlooked those taps or they don’t have it.Check all 4 sides of the frame for those taps. They usually sit flush with the frame if never needed.Just pull them away from the frame till the filter sits tight.Regarding the cleaner that is expensive. That is a true statement but I don’t plan on using the cleaner fromK&N for this filter. The K&N cleaner is for the automobile filters and those are oiled. The cleaner is dissolving the oil and prepares the automobile filter to be oiled again. That is not needed here. This filter is a try filter and any mild cleaner should be able to loosen the trapped dirt. I am planing on using diluted simple green cleaner, amazon stuff.I am glad we got this filter because the paper filter we used were just a “9” filter and this is “11”. Should catch more and can be cleaned more frequently if needed. The filter itself seems sturdy enough, I dropped it from about 8 feed (our return is in the ceiling) and it survived. Lol.Would defend buy again
