Good quality media that works well for whole house filtration. The frame is sturdy, holds its shape and makes an exact fit for my air handler.

Several months back, I had removed the electrical filter system from my HVAC because the continual snapping drove my dogs nuts. I installed a typical garden variety "Best Deal Filters". I first noticed that the box packaging was cheap and it did not protect the filters in shipping, which arrived partially crushed. The filters were so cheaply made they started tearing just by slipping them into their slot. Then I found the 'NORDIC PRUE' in my 25x20x5 size. (Measure the interior dimensions of your HVAC slot as with the rest of the 25x20x5 filters, the actual size of the filter is just under the 25x20x5. These filters were factory boxed in a strong well made box that protected them during shipping and they arrived undamaged. The filter itself was far higher in quality than the cheapo no brand filter I initially installed, which was also about the same price. The filter was far stronger in construction and quality then the junk I initially put in. Plus it's a Merv 12 vs the Merv 8 I removed. Though there was a small space on 2 sides of this filter against my HVAC slot, as to be expected as none of these HVAC slots seem to be the same size, I simply used aluminum tape with the removal film on the back and sealed this slight space. Took all of 3 minutes. I would highly recommend the NORDIC PURE for all your filter needs, a quality product for a fair price, and, it's MADE IN THE USA. 5 Star product.

Update 12/3/13: After purchasing an X6675 MERV16+carbon filter, I've decided to deduct a star. The Nordic Pure isn't a bad filter and I can tell it gets a lot of stuff out of the air (one thing I've noticed is older filters turned more of a brownish or blackish color over time while this one is more dingy and greenish--I think this is a result of the UV light keeping the air a little cleaner?) just by looking and also at air quality... I'm not sure it does a whole lot for smell, I don't know how effective Nordic Pure's implementation with the carbon filter is. The X6675 has a lot more folds (more surface area) and a different (and more common) way of handling the carbon portion.Original Review:__________________I've been using this filter for a few weeks now and I feel like I can tell a pretty big difference in overall air quality. My allergies bother me less and I definitely see a reduction in dust. I should preface that by mentioning that I had my entire HVAC system replaced just before installing this filter (the old system only had room for a 1 or 2 inch filter, I upgraded to a 5 inch when I had the new HVAC installed) so that could play a role, as well. Additionally, I had a much larger UV light installed than I previously had--neither were Ozone producing lights--which may or may not be helping with allergies. My home also seems to smell fresher but it never smelled bad to begin with, so that's hard to truly discern. What is easy to discern is the visual aspect of how the filter is performing! It's definitely picking up a great deal of stuff that my previous filter (Filtrete 2400) apparently didn't. It was close to white after a month or two (the first one was dirtier) and this one is no longer white.I briefly installed the MERV 11 filter that came with the Honeywell F100xxx filter housing and you can definitely tell the difference in resistance between that filter and the one I am reviewing. The Nordic Pure MERV 15 had probably close to double the number of pleats; yet, it still adds quite a bit of drag to the airflow. So much so that you can hear the difference between the two with the filter housing door closed. My system appears to be able to handle it without much issue but I imagine some may not. If you are going to get this level of filter, I HIGHLY recommend starting with just one or talking to your HVAC person first. If you find that it works well, go from there. I'm actually going to pick up a MERV 13 + Carbon next time around, I think. I considered MERV 14... I just think it might be a little much. If the MERV 13 doesn't cut it with my allergies, I might switch it up during the crazier seasons. (Granted, most allergens should be removed by the MERV 13 or even MERV 12/11, mine are a little absurd at times). The new big thing is IAQ (Indoor Air Quality), a good filter and a UV light are a couple of easy ways to improve air quality. In my situation, both are necessary because they'd have to remove my entire coil casing (disconnecting, etc...) just to clean it.

We had our furnace replaced last year and had a Lennox SLP98V 98% efficiency unit installed because it wasn't much more than the lower efficiency rated units. Wow, what a difference the furnace made in our monthly gas bills, they dropped by quite a bit which will more than make up the difference of saving money by getting a lower efficiency unit.Enough about our furnace, this review is about the Air Filter. I looked up the price on the Lennox X6675 replacement filters and they linger around $100 each which I thought was a bit much. A quick search on Amazon showed these Nordic Pure filters at less than a 1/4 of the cost vs. the Lennox and they had good reviews so I thought I'd give them a try.The first thing I noticed is that the original Lennox is a MERV 16 filter while these Nordic Pure filters are MERV 12. If you're not an HVAC guy, like me, then you would not have a clue what this meant, so a quick internet search showed me the difference between the different MERV ratings and this is what I found:"Filters with a merv rating of 9 to 12 are used in commercial and industrial applications and will stop particles in the 1 to 3 micron range. These filters are a great choice for home owners who want the best dust control possible. When using filters with Merv 9 ratings and above it is important to clean or replace them when recommended by the manufacturer because they will have a negative effect on air flow when they become dirty. This can lead to performance problems and decreased operating efficiency. The most efficient filters have merv ratings of 13 to 16 and will stop particles as small as .3 microns. These filters are used in hospitals and other super clean environments."Okay great, well my home is not a hospital nor a cleanroom environment so I think I'm going to be just fine with a MERV 12 filter :) The next thing I noticed is that not all 20x25x5 filters are the same size (surprise, surprise) and the ones I ordered from Amazon (which is the product I'm reviewing here) are a little bit bigger than the X6675 filter from Lennox. My front filter cover plate did not want to seat all the way until I kind of banged it in. So, if you have a Lennox furnace and you find these filters are a tad big, do a search on Amazon for X6675 and you'll find there is a Lennox version of this filter that is sized appropriately, or click the link here . Yes, they are a little more expensive than these filters, but they will fit correctly, and remember, you're still saving almost $150 over buying two Lennox filters! As to how the filter performs, well I just bought them so I cannot say, but I fully expect them to perform as well as any other 20x25x5 filter. I give these filters 4 stars because they do what they are supposed to do and at a much cheaper price than the alternative "name brand" filters.
