I work in IT, and I own a couple other printers - one of which I purchased (another HP color laser from many, many years back) and another one I inherited when my parents downsized (not HP). The one thing neither of them support is printing on both sides of the paper easily - which this HP MFP M235sdw printer supports. To be clear, this is only a black and white laser printer (no color) but the price is in line with that at just ~$170. Also to be clear, I mostly ordered this as a replacement for my decade-plus old HP printer and since the other printer did most of the things I needed other than two-sided, I was mostly interested in that feature for this MFP.I've learned to use heavier and brighter paper (24# and 97 brightness) in my printing, which does help eliminate feed issues and also helps the print stand out better, plus with the slightly thicker paper the print on the second side doesn't bleed through as much. As my older HP LaserJet doesn't officially have Windows 11 drivers (although it still works), I can tell the time for my old printer is coming to an end. It works for now, but who knows how long until that changes (plus the whole single-sided doble-sided thing). That's another reason I had no problem ordering another HP printer and getting the features I wanted. While this does come with USB and Ethernet ports, I went through the wireless setup which was fairly easy (but time consuming). I much preferred plugging in the ethernet cable and having my computers find the printer on the network using the settings menu. The double-sided printing isn't the fastest, but it was plenty fast for home (or home office?) use.In order to set up the scanning, I downloaded and installed the software from HP's website. Sadly this included some old Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 redistributable drivers, but HP is far from being alone in using those. As part of the scanner software install there was an unexpected reboot. Thankfully with o365 and Win 11 all my documents were saved and reopened, but that was NOT a fun discovery (and would likely seriously upset novice users). After the reboot the software WAS installed, but that's not something I would expect from a company like HP. Once the software was installed, I had to scan my network to find the MFP M235sdw, but after it was found the setup wanted me to log in to a webpage (which asks for the username and password - which I don't have and can't find). It almost feels like HP added this functionality on as an afterthought. As the other printer I have also has a scanning feature, rather than fight this software I opted to just move on (since I hadn't really ordered this for scanning anyway). As far as ease of printing, this was super simple and easy to set up - especially with a direct wired ethernet connection to my network. Wireless printing was pretty easy to set up as well, it just took longer. I really like (and use regularly) the automatic double-sided printing this supports. I can't comment on scanning ability as I got frustrated with the setup and just moved on with my life. But, for less than $200 I have a laser printer that supports double-sided printing and for me, that's worth it to have.

Could not get this printer to recognize my wifi password or start up in any way..Setup told me my wifi password was incorrect. It wouldn't properly recognize my wifi password on its own(as the HP setup screen said it would).I only have one wifi password. And it's spelled out clearly on the back of my router from my cable company. And my wifi router from the cable company is literally 4 feet from this printer.. I also entered the password manually & correctly 10 times. And this HP printer didn't like it, & wouldn't accept it. And it wouldn't move on with its initial set-up. (Just kept telling me my password was incorrect.)Had problems with my previous HP printer & decided to give this new HP product a try.Wasted 2 hrs of my life trying to get this one up and running- fresh out of the box. Gave up, boxed it back up and am returning it. Without getting a copy or a scan from it.I don't have hours, or the patience to figure out why HP products don't workMy laptop is a year and a half old, runs windows 11, and was just fully updated before I opened the box & attempted to install this printer.I bought it based on the reviews of ease of setup- and how happy people were with it.I did not have that experience. If you buy it- I hope you do better..

My most recent printer was a cheap Brother that served me well for a few years, but boy, I sure missed the professional HP laser printer I had before that. It was one I picked up during the financial crisis of '08, when auction companies were selling used office equipment for pennies on the dollar. That used HP let me put case after case of paper through it before finally surrendering to old age. Now, while I don't expect to get that kind of use out of this consumer model, I do see similarities with that old workhorse. This was a breeze to set up. Connected to my router, it allows anyone in my home to print from his own computer. That's a refreshing upgrade from what we had before. With high-quality cellphone cameras at our fingertips, scanning a document on a flatbed scanner isn't always necessary. But occasionally, I'll have a rather sensitive legal document to scan, and a photograph just won't do. This all-in-one suits me perfectly for such occasional use. And of course, it's the scanning feature that allows this to also function as a copier. I must admit it's nice that I no longer have to dust off my old inkjet all-in-one that I never buy ink for, a cumbersome device I kept around only for occasional scanning duties. This really is a nice little all-in-one printer, what should be a welcome addition to anyone's home.
