This is very versatile. I use the lid as a fry pan. I have used it for pot roasts on the cooktop. I just used it for baking bread in my outdoor grill! Unlimited uses. Well made, HEAVY!

I'm past banana bread, and onto the mandatory sourdough phase of my pandemic cooking. I saw (and, yeah, bought) the often-referenced Tartine-recommended 3.2 qt combo cooker by Lodge, so I can compare these. I happen to have a large oven, so I thought, "Why bake in sequence when I can cook two loaves at once?!" So, the Lodge pan has a finer finish; the Westinghouse is coarser, but I'm using it inverted for a sourdough baker, and I'm using parchment paper under my loaves, so the pot texture is not important. The Westinghouse is larger, so if you know you'll have a lot of oven spring, there is plenty of clearance. Sometimes I don't evenly split my two-loaf dough - so I make a large loaf in the Westinghouse and a smaller loaf in the Lodge. The Lodge has long handles - good for gripping (with gloves, *not* hot pads), and the Westinghouse has side handles - but if you are using heat-proof gloves (the ones with silicone), the handles work fine. The shorter handles also allow both pans to fit in the oven on the same shelf without so much puzzle fitting. If you are using this as a sourdough bread "oven" - I cannot stress enough that you will need ovenproof gloves to handle these heavy pots at 500F. The first time I used them, I tried to do the bread loading and pot covering with hot pads, and it felt like I was fighting a fire with a sensu (Japanese fan), and I proceeded to drop one of the hot pans on the oven door. When I opened my eyes after the initial wave of abject terror passed, all was well, and I sheepishly trotted off to order some gloves. At any rate, there was only one review on here when I placed my order - and that person had a bad experience. I had a wonderful experience and really thought you should know.

DO NOT BUY!! The Pot arrived and at unboxing I noticed the VERY rough gritting and then a smooth spot... and what appeared to be rippling in the bottom... Then noticed some of the wrapping/protective plastic was stuck at the top of the inside of the pot. Yet when I peeled it off I noticed it look like the plasti dripped and that didn't seem right because it was just a normal bag, not shrink wrap.. Imagine my surprise when I ran my nail over it to scrape it off and discovered that the pot is actually CRACKED down the whole side by the Handle. I don't know if it happened in Shipping or before it left their warehouse... I didn't even know Cast Iron COULD Crack...What I DO KNOW.... is that it will COST ME $39 Dollars for Return Shipping just to get refunded for a $47 Dollar item and all because of a Cracked Pot with a Lid/Skillet that has a defective finish with VERY Gritty defective Polish/Surface with smooth spots..So Now what??? Lose the money and toss, recycle or donate it is Thrift Store I guess...Utter Ridiculousness to be STUCK PAYING for something where one pot is BROKEN and the other lid is defective and even if it wasn't damaged..Quality wise it's NOT WORTH the money! Maybe for "Camping Users" but not Home Cooking.

This is a wonderful pan; great for so many different cooking processes (baking, frying, stewing, deep frying, etc.). I love it!
