This adapter works great to transform a DisplayPort connection into a vga port. I think most devices now have just moved onto hdmi connections, but you will find some that are DisplayPort connections. If so, then this adapter is what you need. It also includes an audio cable built right into the cable - this definitely cuts down on all the cable mess. I will mention - in order to use the audio part of the cable, you will need to power it via the portion of the built in micro usb cable. It has a connector cord - that extends the micro built in female usb to a full blown usb at the end to be plugged in to your computer or whatever method you choose for power.Overall, if you need an adapter that will let you plug your DisplayPort connection on your laptop to a VGA monitor and/or want external sound - this adapter is for you!

I needed one like this for connection my HP Mini's DisplayPort to a VGA projector and it works flawlessly. I like it having the screws to secure the cable as I have another one that doesn't have the screws and it keeps wiggling off.The audio out put is nice but it needs to be powered by the mini USB cable which is not always possible to find one on either the projector or monitor. I deduct one star for it. I might just cut them off and connect the sound cable directly from the audio port.As a display adapter, it works well, and I recommend it. If you have a mini-USB port to supply the power, it's even better.

This cable is working flawlessly to connect my Dell desktop to my monitor. I have the DisplayPort output from the computer connected to the VGA input on the monitor. There really isn't much more to say than "it works!" The audio output is a nice plus. As other reviewers have said, you need the micro USB plugged in to power the audio output. StarTech has conveniently included a micro USB to standard USB cable, something I was not expecting. There are plenty of open USB ports adjacent to the DisplayPort on my computer!If you are in a situation that requires such a cable, you likely cannot go wrong with this one.

If you ever have a need to connect to a video projector or VGA monitor in the field, you want this handy cable in your bag.It takes the DisplayPort output from your laptop and feeds it through a six foot long cable to a VGA connector. The VGA connector is delightfully “old-fashioned” and has security thumbscrews to make a solid connection to the VGA input.It will also output audio as a secondary feed, but requires USB power to do so.StarTech has earned a reputation as the go-to place for fairly esoteric connectors and other stuff. I have a lot of their gear and all of it is high quality, as is this adapter.Jerry
