Ten+ years ago these would have been $1000 speakers, rather than the under-$100 now. I bought these for my mother: such to help break her addiction to subtitles, which it did, when they worked. She has a soundbar, which sounds like crap: they all do, the older you get, hence the attempted upgrade. However, the Bluetooth kept dropping out (from her streaming stick), having to reengage it every day or so. Not acceptable: her barely knowing how, that and the nuisance-factor disrupting normal operations. There were no optical/headphone/RCA outs from that tv, (only HDMI-ARC,) had to abandon the idea, related to these speakers. On the plus side, they were now mine.Connectivity– Excellent, if compatible with your gear. Lots of choices for input. The subwoofer-out is a nice touch: though I find that isn't necessary when used nearby. It ‘booms’ well enough on its own to fill a small(er) room. Could use an HDMI-ARC input: should anyone want it connected to their tv, to replace their crappy soundbar.Sound– I was impressed. Good enough to break an old lady of her dependence on subtitles, for a spell. They wound up on my desktop: providing more than enough audio. I bought another pair for my child, for their other home: good enough to drown out the noise of their step-family, while not annoying those in the adjacent bedrooms. Occasionally, I get that plastic-resonant sound (you get when using plastic tweeters) but only on the left speaker. I tightened the screws and it abated a bit.Lights– Flash way too fast, slow it down, please. Also, I put a layer of electrical tape over the lights as they were way too bright.Angle– Depending upon your desktop, I might recommend risers: such to point them straight at your ears. In my case, I stuck some inch-thick rubber feet under the front-face to angle it, rather than buying the $50+ foam risers.Overall– These are excellent under-$100 nearfield/bookshelf/desktop speakers.

I bought the 40 watt version of these speakers because I needed decent speakers for a new TV but I didn't want to break the bank. WOW. I enjoyed them so much that I bought a pair for the bedroom, my home office, and my work office. The thing I like about these speakers is that the bass is just right! In my office at work, I often listen to music at very low volume so as to not disturb others. Even at the low volume, the bass is very noticeable but not intrusive. Most speakers of this size under-represent the bass at low volume, but these do a great job. These speakers in my bedroom at home reproduce the bass reliably at higher volume as well. I did end up adding a separate powered subwoofer to my TV setup, and it was simple to connect the sub to the special sub output of these speakers. Finally, it's great that I can connect a number of different things to this setup. I've tried all of the inputs (BT, normal line-in, digital coax, optical) and it's handy that the unobtrusive LED's on the front of the right speaker show you which input is active. The remote is handy to select the input and change the volume.

Good stereo speakers are a great investment. I've enjoyed my B&Ws for two decades. But having "a stereo" is becoming more uncommon. Many people these days only hear music through their cell phone or TV speakers. Perhaps a small BT speaker or a sound bar.I wanted to get my mom something better than her tablet to listen to music on, and was considering a single BT speaker, but discovered these sub-$100 bookshelf speakers. To be honest, I was skeptical, but the offer of physical stereo separation and bass ports was too much to pass up. No matter how cheap, when moving air there's just no replacement for displacement. They arrived well packaged & undamaged. Removing the grills for inspection did reveal a small bulge on the front of the right speaker, which appears to be a manufacturing defect. As it's not visible with the cover on, that's not a significant flaw. The finish does seem reasonably tough, a textured vinyl wood grain in a neutral dark brown that should go with just about any decor.Setup was easy, and it paired quickly with mom's iPad. I'm impressed with the presence of an optical input. It's not HDMI, but it wouldn't be hard to use the included optical cable to connect to a TV. Unlike a sound bar or portable BT, these speakers could serve as the center of an entire entertainment system: TV/gaming through the optical (plus music streaming with a smart TV), turntable or CD through the RCA inputs, and BT for phone or tablet streaming. No receiver or switches required. At this price that connectivity & utility is quite a value. So how do they sound? Pretty good. I'm sure all the components are as inexpensive as possible, but we've been making ported two-way speakers for decades. You don't really need diamond tweeters to produce acceptable sound. People have been rocking out with the old silk domes for a long time. The bass ports are well-tuned & the low-end is as good as you can expect from a speaker this size. The mids are disappointing, but one thing I haven't seen other reviewers mention is the digital amp has three different modes: "movie/music/news". Clearly preset EQ profiles. I figured "news" would probably boost the mid/human voice range. Selecting that did help the issue, and I would recommend using that setting even for music for a flatter response. Some additional EQ tweaking would probably be a good idea, but I doubt my mom will notice. She would love listening to Dolly Parton on an old AM truck radio, so a slightly tinny sound is probably appropriate.Another option - if size is not an issue - would be to go with the 5" version of this speaker for a few dollars more. Nothing this size will ever compare to free-standing tower speakers, but every little bit helps.Just having speakers of any kind is a big step up from in-device (TV/tablet) speakers, and having two real two-way speakers is inherently acoustically better than any single-box solution, especially at this price. The appearance is good - to most people a speaker is a speaker - and the connectivity options are truly excellent.

I am somewhat disappointed in the sound these produce. - This is my experience, with my discerning ears and taste in audio. - But i also realize the price range, the expectation cant be for $1000, or even $500 speakers, and not like my JBL 305'sI like high Hi's ....middle of the way Mid's and deep punchy bass without forgetting the mid to high bass. These speakers do cover a lot of those bases, and for many it may be an outstanding deal. For me, given the reviews here, i was a little put off when i got them, not totally disappointed, just let down a little.I considered keeping them for my son but opted not to and returned them once Saiyin replaced them for the 6801K - though they sent me the old version when advised i would get the newer version with the horn tweeter, not the done tweeter.***Build qualityVisual quality - excellent, super nice looking speakers with the grill on or off, although the LED lights in the front should not be the size (actually larger) than a pencil erasure and should only light up based on the input selected (color coded lights per input method maybe.Saiyin - all that is needed are tiny lights, you don't need big led's like you have now. They are not very heavy and the external aesthetics are very appealing.Vibrations/Rattle at high volume - nonexistent - perfect.***Audio QualityLoudness - Oh my gosh yes, very loud, i did not test distortion much but they handle and extremely high volume level.Treble - This is one of my sticking points, though its not BAD, just not what i want in a speaker. The version without the Treble and Bass are limited, they don't offer any wiggle room without a pre-amp/EQ, which for those who have one, many lucky you, get these speakers! If you don't, then you should look at the 6801K for the Treble controlDon't get me wrong, the treble is there, its nice, but it wasn't what i wanted.Bass - more than enough for such a small little woofer and small enclosure, in fact wow, WOW, huge bass for what they are.Its tuned perfectly, for what they are but what would be nice, really nice, is maybe an alternate version that uses a Bass Reflex type ported enclosure because it offers an extremely elevated level of punch to your bass. even porting it from the rear so that bass bounces off the walls.a full 5" and 8" woofer/subwoofer version with larger horn tweeters and a midrange speaker would be putting many speaker people out of business - Edifier i am talking to you.***Customer ServiceMy experience with Saiyin has been nothing but phenomenal, the rep I dealt with was polite, understanding, helpful and even replaced the speakers I was not personally happy with, with the 6801K speakers which offer separate bass and treble, and a MIC input (which i think is pretty cool)This greatly helped tone down the extra bass because of the chipset tuning and bring up the treble to where i want it (which is treble maxed out, and Bass about 60%)I really really which they offered a 3-way speaker though, man i would replace my JBL305's with those.I still liked the original model, they are 10000% worth every penny, but don't buy them thinking they are JBL Monitors, or B&W or any other high end speaker.Envision cheaply priced speakers, that blow you away, and then blow you away again when you realize that the things are less than $100.They promote them as phonograph speakers, but let me tell you whether its this model or the 6801K they make AMAZING home theater speakers. And depending on how you position them, the need for a sub is down to personal preference, not out of necessity.Original -YES i realize these are TWO-WAY speakers but with a separate tweeter horn there should be more treble here.So far I have only tested Bluetooth and this is what i am basing my reply on, so for now i am keeping the review the way it stands. On the Iphone i had to use the Treble Booster EQ setting which does a lot more than boost trebles, but it made it sound better.I have had other BT adapters that caused heavy bass too so i am hopeful with the RCA or Optical inputs the audio will level out. (hoping)I did not test those as i later reached out to Saiyan and they resolved it (per my above remarks)
