I got this spring for a throttle fine-control project for my boat. In this project I need a way to allow a control arm to move away but be gently pulled back later. This 9” long spring looked like it would work for me.First, I can confirm that it is 9” long, if you include the attachment loops/rings on each end. This diameter is 6mm, a little smaller than the 6.35mm for a true ¼”, but close enough for most applications.The issue is that the spring is much stiffer than the description specified. It says:“Average extension of this spring for a 200g load is approximately 17" (430mm).”This means – or should mean – that the spring should take about 12g pull to extend the spring about 1”, based on the 200g/17” spec. So, I hung a 200g mass on the spring and it only extended ~30mm, far short of the 430mm just mentioned. I was expecting the spring to stretch easily, it took almost 200 g to extend one inch [that’s almost half a pound]. This is way too much spring stiffness and force for my anticipated application. It’s a nice spring as far as springs go, but it not what I expected, nor can it be modified to work for me.

What I'm using this for is squirrel-proofing. Little monsters bit through a power cord for a video bird feeder. I repaired the cord after sliding it over it. This goes near the camera so the idea is when the squirrels are trying to get into the feeder this will protect the power cord. Crossing my fingers this will work.It's just large enough to fit over a USB cord and feels sturdy enough to discourage teeth.100% recommend.

Nicely made, easy to setup, granular fertilizer runs well, slide door regulates accurately.

I kept it as a substitute for what I needed in a grill lid, but it's way too light. I should have been more careful. Dimensions seemed appropriate but it's a very very light duty spring, not what I needed.
