I went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars but decided they earned a star back for including left hand instructional videos which most patterns don’t do.Good materials and included tools are there. The videos are helpful but not as repetitive as some. A beginner might have to rewind a bunch.The instructions use a creative font that may be difficult for some readers to follow. They’re also really confusing. Usually for a project I only have to check out the video if there’s a new concept or a weird fiddly bit. This one the videos are pretty much required to follow how to connect them in the right order, using the right path. The instructions show what is labeled as a connection path, but there’s no indication where you start or which part of the path comes next. There’s some colored connection points, but they seem inconsistently colored?The good thing, is that I did work out you can make all the daisies ahead of time, and then attach them with the green, so a beginner and an experienced person could work together. Or a whole group, with the experienced person attaching the daisies together.It’s a pretty design, and I think probably not too hard once you understand how it goes together, it’s just gaining the understanding that may be tricky for some people, especially if it’s the first time they’ve don’t something like this.

I remember making a granny square that first time which is what this is but not the more traditional style that I remember making. This one I got as a way to pass the craft onto my granddaughter. I don't know if she will ever make anything else or even finish this one, but I hope she does, even if she gives it to her other grandmother or an aunt on her mother's side of the family. This was a fun way to start - the blue flowers on a white background seemed like a good choice as most ladies like blue and have at least one dress or nice outfit that this will go with. I showed my granddaughter how to hold the crochet hook and how to read the instructions. We went over how to make a small gauge piece to understand how you (how you hold and pull on yarn to create tension) check the size and dimension of the final piece and how smaller pieces affect that final size. I worked on one of the pieces while she did one so that we could compare the final squares. I then tore mine out because I wanted all of hers to match HER way of holding the crochet hook and the tension she put on the yarn while crocheting. While I was with her that first day, she made four squares and they looked pretty good. She took the kit and her finished pieces home with her and I haven't yet seen the finished piece, though I did tell her I would be happy to show her different ways to put the squares together if she did not like the way they showed how to do it in the kit. I will say that this states it is for intermediate or advanced crocheters, but really, this is a very easy pattern in my opinion. Then again, I have been crocheting since I was young, but the thing is, my granddaughter had little trouble following along and making her own first square or piece (however you think of them). Very nice kit, in my opinion, if you want to make a gift for someone as it is a complete kit or a shawl for yourself!

I'm glad they listed this as "intermediate or advanced levels". It's not a beginner project. That said, it has the tools you need to figure out how to do it if you haven't done this type of pattern before.Included in this kit are: crochet hook (with vinyl grip), plastic needle, stitch marker, a picture of the shawl in your chosen colors, and a booklet with instructions in color, on glossy paper.The shawl is made up of 52 whole flowers and 9 half flowers, and ends up appx 59 1/16th" at the base, 35 /16th" side lengths, and 22 7/16th" high. There are QR codes for videos for Right and Left hands, which is particularly meaningful to me as my daughter is left-handed and it really can be a struggle with DIY videos that do not show things like this. Much appreciated!The shawl that this makes is absolutely beautiful, and I believe it's a great value for the money. The yarn quality is a thin acrylic and am I the only person who had knots connecting the thread (pieces tied together) in some areas? That was... unexpected?There are color pictures in the booklet to show how to connect the flowers, the partial connection path, the whole connection path, the edging of the shawl, and the various crochet stitches used in this shawl.This is a great kit, a lot of fun to make, and it feels like they thought of everything in how they put this together (with how you'll use it). I'm really happy with the price and everything that was included (including the instructions!). Highly recommend this kit.It's now almost summer and I generally work on yarn projects in the winter and spring, so this will likely not be finished until Christmas or so.
