For almost 15 years, I’ve been whining to my wife about the lighting situation in my little shower. There’s a can light nearby, but it completely misses my shower and I can barely see my face when I’m shaving. Problem solved. I had this light installed in under an hour, from layout to clean up, and all I needed was a 3 dollar hole saw and about 5 feet of 14/2 romex.I have a single-story home, so this went up into an attic space. But if you have a multi-story situation, you can still use this even if you only have 2x6 joists above you. That’s pretty cool. You just pop it up, and the spring clips automatically adjust it and hold it flush to the ceiling. Traditional can lights can be difficult to adjust, and getting that trim ring lowered once it’s up can be impossible on some. That’s not a problem with these, but the springs on those wings are strong, so getting them held all the way up and flush with the can as you insert it into the hole can be a bit of a challenge. Once you let go, the can pops up and into place very quickly as it tries to eat your fingers. These are made by HALO, which is a subsidiary of Cooper Lighting Solutions. They’ve been in the ceiling light business for more than 65 years, and appear to be the main can light manufacturer for Big Orange and Big Blue. It’s well-built, and it even matches my existing 15-year-old can lights. The junction box is completely enclosed sheet metal, and pops open with your fingers. Inside there are plastic wire grippers on each side, and some cool new wire nuts built into the fixture wires. Even the ground sports its own wire nut.The best thing about this light is that most LED ceiling lights have the bulb built-in, and you’re stuck with whatever color or lumens it puts out. Once it’s dead, you have to buy a whole new fixture. But with this, you can put whatever bulb in it you want, and when it dies, you just change the bulb.Pros+ Easy to install, includes it's own junction box and wire-nut type connectors.+ All one piece, no trim ring.+ No adjustment needed.+ You can change the bulb to whatever you want.Cons- Springs on the 'wings' are crazy strong, and can be difficult to hold tight to sides during install.Overall, very happy. Hope this helps.
