This unit was installed by a licensed plumber. After 2 hours of trying to get it installed and working, it was time for a test run. Water water everywhere. The flange that connects the dishwasher is a plastic nightmare. There is no way it can seal the way it was made. Installed a Badger, 45 minutes up and running with no leaks. STAY AWAY FROM THIS "GE" disposal and go with a name brand such as Badger or sinkerator.

Shame on me. This is the first time in forty years that I did not buy an insinkerator disposal. In hindsight I wish I had just from familiarity and quietness. This disposal installed easier than insinkerators. It did not include a cord so that meant a trip to the store to get one. It will grind anything for sure. It just seems louder than advertised. Since we have a large open floor plan I was really seeking a quiet disposal and that’s my only regret with this one. I installed a less expensive insinkerator for my brother a week later and it’s less than a third of the noise of ours. Oh well, live and learn.

This device was easy to install, seems quite with small amounts of food. Other than a cord you may need to adjust the piping to intall. Local hardware stores have the plastic pipes you will need. Utube videos can walk you through the process.

There are several things that one should know before ordering it:The outflow pipe is about two inches lower than it is on a standard disposal. Because of this, it cannot easily be swapped out with a regular disposal. In my case, considerable rejiggering of the undersink plumbing was necessary. It is loud. When turned on, it makes an alarming CLUNK followed by a sound I associate with power tools. (Or, if you watch Futurama, with the Hypnotoad.)Perhaps most importantly, critical pieces of the disposal, such as the collar connecting the disposal and the sink, are made of plastic, not metal. I am suspicious that this may crack before the disposal actually gives out.Other than that, I am looking forward to at least several months of glee on the part of my wife, who will enjoy applying this machine's considerable brute force to things that are discovered rotting in the back of the fridge before sending the resulting atomized slurry down the drain, before we all get used to it.
