It works...BUT. I highly recommend changing the serpentine belt and two guide pulleys located on each side of the belt tensioner when performing this service, why not? The original bolt (Torx 50) is necessary for reinstallation of the new tensioner. Also, you have to remove the lower guide pulley to remove the old/install new tensioner. I took the opportunity to inspect the parts and removed the entire assembly under the alternator. Not difficult and allows you to easily inspect additional parts since you are already there. The alternator is 3 bolts (1/2 inch) and the bracket for the tensioner and 2 guide pulleys is another 3 bolts (1/2 inch). If you do plan on doing this make sure to spray some PB Blaster or liquid wrench equivalent and allow to soak for a few hours or I recommend over night. If your vehicle has rusted bolts I recommend leaving these bolts alone...been there done that and sometimes if it ain't broke don't fix it. That's my 2 cents...Hope this review helps someone. This upgrade eliminated the belt squeal and made the steering much more responsive. I believe the brakes feel better, going to bleed them and will update the review if it helped. Overall this is a very solid piece of equipment and a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED upgrade for the 7.3.9/6/2022: Bled the brakes and this tensioner DEFINITELY made all the difference in braking performance. If you own an older F350 then you know how difficult the brakes can be at times. These brakes have NEVER felt this responsive and like I said in the original post, the steering has definitely improved. Hope this helps...

This is a high quality tensioner with design improvements over the original (and problematic) Ford part. Gates is very up front that it does not come with a mounting bolt and that the original bolt must be re-used (less the washer).IMPORTANT: As I learned the hard way - emphasis on THE ORIGINAL BOLT - meaning the one your truck rolled off the assembly line with. If you have replaced your tensioner before, and given the age of 7.3L Powerstroke equipped trucks it's 99% certain that you have, you probably don't have the original mounting bolt anymore. My truck has over 220k miles (still going strong) and I have replaced the tensioner. I used an OEM Motorcraft (Ford) Tensioner when I did. It came with a mounting bolt, so the old one went to the metal recycling bin along with the rest of the original tensioner. Everything went together well and I doubt I gave any of it a second thought. Until now.The ORIGINAL BOLT is an M10-1.5 x 95 Socket Head Cap Screw with a T50 Torx drive. The replacement bolt on my Motorcraft tensioner is an M10-1.5 x 95 Hex Head Flange Bolt with a 13mm drive. From a quick search it appears most (if not all) replacement tensioners (that come with a mounting bolt) use something other than a socket head cap screw. NONE of them will work. Due to the differences in the Gates design, a hex head bolt will protrude just enough to rub against your serpentine belt. That won't end well...Near as I can tell you cannot get the original bolt from Ford. Good luck finding an identical replacement. I've ended up ordering a conventional M10-1.5 x 95 Socket Head Cap Screw with the much more common 8mm Allen drive. Other than the annoyance of having an "odd ball" bolt, it should work just fine. It's not something one can usually find locally, so I'll know when it arrives from my favorite specialty hardware store in a few days.Again - It is a high quality tensioner that I am sure will serve well, but one star off for Gates neither including a suitable bolt nor being sufficiently clear about how critical "original" is. By all means buy this tensioner - it's much better than the flawed Ford design. Just be sure you have the hardware you will need to install it.Hopefully my lessons learned will help others avoid the same fun.

Fits good and is ready to bolt in. Replaced my old tensioner that wasn't aligned. Will likely stick with gates for belts and tensioners - 1996 F250 7.3lOrdered on 1/4/20 and received 1/6/20 with free shipping

Works, and is better than either using a stock motorcraft tensions ( a part with known issues) of doing the "trim the block, use a motorcraft tensioner from a later truck" solution. If you have an OBS, don't want the weak oem tensioner and want something stronger without taking a saw or file to your block, this is a good, cost efficient solution.
