Tips to improve your indoor air quality
Dust:
Regular dusting prevents the buildup of allergens and other pollutants.
Upgrade your filter:
Choose a Filtrete Filter with a higher Microparticle Performance Rating (MPR) to remove more particles from the air in your home.
Wash and vacuum:
Stick to a weekly schedule when it comes to washing your bedding and vacuuming your carpets and furniture.
Control the humidity:
Maintain humidity between 30 and 50 percent for maximum comfort.
Change your filter:

Installing your Filtrete Filter
Step 1:
Remove the plastic and label from the filter — don’t remove the cardboard framing.
Step 2:
Find the arrow and pint it toward the AC/heating fan.
Step 3:
Put the filter into its slot (see illustration).

I use these as a cheap emergency replacement for HEPA filters: when stacked in series two of these 1" filters reduce the 0.3 micron particles 50-fold (98% arrest, verified with a calibrated particle counter). The 12" size is relatively standard , and fits into standard housings. These Filtretes are odour-free, unlike costly HEPA filters from certain supplies (e.g. IQAir). Now, I wish they costed less (hence 4 stars).

These filters are a premium product. I would so often forget to replace my (regular) filters because they are in the attic and out of site, out of mind I suppose. I was probably replacing my filters every 5 or 6 months due to this. Since I started buying the Bluetooth-enabled smart filters, I can check on their status without going into the hot or cold (depending on time of year) attic and I LOVE IT. The app gives notifications regarding the status of the filter life along with the status of outdoor air quality and indoor quality (if you're willing to add a monitor). I recommend this product to all my home owners as I don't know how you can be confident in your air quality in your house unless you just have reminders to replace the filters every few months. I have enough things that I have to set as reminders so I don't want any part of that process! This product eliminates that option and makes things easy since we always have our phones on us anyway.

I've been using these MERV 12 equivalent filters from Filtrete for quite some time now and I'm pleased with their effective filtration ability. Amazon provides the best unit cost in my region.

These filters are top quality and arrived quickly. I live in the TX panhandle where blowing dust is part of life. And being in the 4th year of drought hasn't helped. So a good quality filter like these helps a lot to keep the amount of dust and pet dander minimized. The price was good with the free shipping and I will buy again when needing more.
