This little screen is easy to use and setup, if you are new to Arduino waveshare has a wiki page with info and how to setup demos on this unit!The quality is great as I've come to expect from waveshare, the screen is bright and clear despite the size, the RGB that cycles through the acrylic is awesome, it's easy to program through Arduino ide.The screen is attached to the acrylic and the acrylic is attached to the board with some sticky tack it's easily removable by gently prying the acrylic away from the board if you need more space to solder on the header pins!Overall fantastic value, high quality build and many potential use cases make this an easy win!

I've been working with micro-controllers for many years but this is my first time working with an ESP32. This ESP32 comes pre-loaded with a demo program that runs upon power up. I was able to use the Arduino IDE to program this module. You need to install the board so it shows up in the board manager. I did this using the URL method under . There's a link in the description to the Waveshare wiki for this board. Amazon will delete my review if I add in a link here. I'm still clunking away trying to figure out how to upload some demos to the board. I was able to upload a simple blink program and verify it was working using a logic probe. I've been spinning my wheels trying to figure out how to get the original demo program back on. So far I've been unsuccessful. It's not the module's fault. I just can't figure out how to get everything in the proper directories to make the Arduino IDE happy. I have never used the Espressif IDE but that might be easier since they originated the ESP32. The header pins are not soldered onto the module. You'll need to solder these on yourself if you want to use them. These solder joints are in a tight spot between the PCB and the display. If you're careful these can be soldered. You'll need a steady hand and a small soldering iron tip. I have not tried to move the display but it may be possible to lift it out of the way to get better access. I'm happy with the overall build quality and would recommend this module for applications that can utilize a display this small. (the display is not a touch screen)

Most of the images that demonstrate this product would imply it is a touchscreen, even the sample code has a scroll bar. But it is not a touchscreen and you cannot interact with any widgets you create. They do document the pinout well enough, so it was easy to get the LCD up and running. The pins are not soldered on and I am not sure how you would solder them on without removing the LCD's acrylic, but it is only held on by some weak adhesive. The LCD is 172x320 which is a bit non-standard.Overall the hardware is nice, it is compact, and the hardware is well documented, so I would recommend this if its what you need.
