Great ice cream scoop, ordered an extra

Best ice cream scoop I’ve owned. Holds up well and looks new.

Prior to purchasing this scoop I owned three other Zyliss products to date. The Zyliss Whisk, the Potatoes Masher, and the Grey and White "Lock n Lift" can opener. The Zyliss Whisk is with out any doubt the very best whisk you will ever buy or use. Those short 5 inch tines are not only easy to clean but the Zyliss whisk will out perform every other whisk on the market. It has the most comfortable handle shape you will ever find on any whisk and is great for thick purees, gravies, whipped potatoes or whipping cream etc etc etc . Why amazon.ca doesn’t carry and sell this super great Zyliss product is a conundrum ?The Zyliss potato masher is as good as they come, and has a super strong 18/8 stainless steel masher head with a beautiful handle and like the whisk it will also last a lifetime. The Grey and White Lock n Lift can opener on the other hand is not a great product and worked for about 30 days the very same amount of time as my $35. BLACK “ OXO “ smooth cutting edge can opener. The toothed gear that rotates the can stripped on both these models after about 12 cans and then it was slow or slipping when rotating the can. My old manual crank $5.00 “ Swing A Way “ can opener is still my favourite can opener to date. Simple is best some times.As you have likely already read 14 other reviewers think this Zyliss product is pretty good and I have to agree. I gave the Zyliss ice cream scoop 5 stars for it’s quality and performance and it actually looks like a Super Star when you compared to it's competitors.I own three other ice cream scoops. The OXO Stainless Steel model and the SUMO stainless steel that is identical to the OXO stainless steel scoop ( handle colour is the only difference ) , and the Good Cook Smart Scoop. The OXO / SUMO both cut and gouge through any solid ice cream, but neither form a nice looking round ball of ice cream to make an ice cream cone. The Good Cook Smart Scoop is slightly better than the OXO / SUMO scoops at a lesser cost and will gouge out a large portion ( chunk ) of ice cream regardless of how hard the ice cream is. The Good Cook will make nice ice cream balls but only if the ice cream is a little softer than a really frozen state and makes an excellent "Cold Cookie Dough Scoop". It forms 3 Tablespoon size balls of cold cookie dough and unlike all other cookie dough scoops currently for sell this scoop will not break. The Good Cook Smart Scoop is the best cookie dough scoop you will ever own and gets a 9 out of 10 for ice cream.The Zyliss and the OXO / SUMO and the Good Cook ice cream scoops all requires the same amount of strength to use ( more than you think ). The Zyliss scoop is the only one that will form a ball of ice cream from frozen hard ice cream. It's not a perfect ball, but is better than what the others will produce when using frozen solid ice cream. The Zyliss scoop has a very unique design and feels more balanced. Its heavy and the weight is mostly in the head where it should be. The head design has more leverage ( not much but is noticeable ) making it slightly easier to use than the other three. The Zyliss is a great scoop at a great price.It should be noted that several reviewers on amazon.com. have stated about pitting or corrosion in the metal part of the Zyliss ice cream scoop. None of the 14 reviewers on amazon.ca have reported any pitting or corrosion about this product and I hope it stays that way. It should also be noted that the Zyliss ice cream scoop has a Non Stick coating so it is always wise to wash any product with a Non Stick Coating by hand. THE ZYLISS SCOOP IS NOT DISHWASHER SAFE and neither is the Good Cook Smart Scoop. I personally recommend that you always wash all your kitchen tools by hand and never put them in a dishwasher.I personally leave the ice cream in the fridge with the lid off for about an hour before serving and return it to the freezer immediately after I'm done. Any one of these four scoops will form a perfect ball of ice cream if the ice cream is a little softer than a frozen solid state. Do not heat any ice cream scoop with hot water or dip the scoop in water before using it. This could contaminate your ice cream and has the possibility to generate very sever health problems.So that’s the scoop about this great Zyliss product. Not many products receive 15 consecutive 5 star recommendations and that alone says an awful lot about a product. I recommend this product to all.

Having been disappointed with every ice cream scoop we've bought in the past, we were still in search of the perfect scoop. Sure, those other metal scoops seemed nice at first... they had heft, seemed durable, and their shiny metal was oh-so-pretty. But one trip through the dishwasher left them dull and corroded, the metal handles turned cold as you dipped ice cream, and the poor design of the handles hurt my hands and wrist as I had to use all my muscle just to dig out a tiny scoop of ice cream.This one is made differently and has received rave reviews, so we thought "For $7, why not?!?" We are very glad we gave it a chance! As an admittedly lazy dish cleaner, I put everything in the dishwasher, and this scoop handles it in style, coming out as shiny and pretty as when it went in. The scoop has a nice cutting edge that slices through the hardest ice cream and requires little or no muscle. Actually, it has a somewhat muscular design, with a very comfortable and easy-to-grip handle - no more hurting wrists or having to ask my husband to dip my ice cream for me! The plastic handle insulates hands from the cold, and the whole scoop seems very sturdy and durable. And I thought our old scoops were hefty, but this one puts them to shame! The weight of this scoop makes it feel like a serious tool in your hand, but it is well-balanced and easy to wield.This scoop makes dipping ice cream so easy, we may just have to eat it more often!
