I ordered this Zeniko ZF08 Mini Aluminum Flash Speedlite, CCT 6500K±200K Camera Flash Light for Canon, Nikon,Sony, Fuji, Leica and Other SLR Cameras with Single Contact Hot Shoe to use primarily as a fill flash with a variety of different cameras.You really have to see this flash in person to understand how tiny it is. It's just an inch and a half square, and when mounted on a hotshoe it is just an inch tall. However, it puts out plenty of light. The GN for this flash is not listed, but my testing puts it right at 10.Because this flash is so small and mounts nearly flush with the top of your camera, longer lenses might block the light and cast shadows on your subject. This, of course, is common to all shoe mounted strobes that sit close to the top of the camera. I ran a series of exposure tests and I can verity that the 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 powers are accurate. That is, changing the power to 1/2 and opening the aperture by 1 stop results in identical exposures. Setting the flash to 1/4 requires a 2 stop change to the aperture to produce the same exposure compared to full power, and so on.Recycle time is just under 2 seconds at full power. When set to 1/8 or 1/16, recycle time is immediate. The flash is powered by an internal battery that you recharge with the included USB-C cable. I fired this thing about 100 times during my testing and the battery charge indicator dropped from full (5 lights) to 4 lights. I don't anticipate that keeping this charged during an entire day of shooting will be an issue.So my heading for this review is "close to perfect." Why not perfect? A couple of reasons. First, this flash is priced about the same as the name brand flash it most resembles. I generally will go with name brand when prices are close because reliability is important to me. Do I know that this flash will be less reliable? No. In fact, eveything that can see leads me to believe that this little wonder will last a long time. Second, there is no way to use this flash off camera, or with a camera that lacks a hot shoe. A way to connect via a flash cable would have helped this flash to achieve perfection. I suppoose you could McGyverr something with triggers and receivers, but that would pretty much defeat the purpose of having such a tiny strobe in the first place.

I've got to say, I'm a bit surprised. I wasn't expecting much, but this little thing is pretty good. It has the same obvious limitations of any top mounted flash (harsh lighting namely) but it works very well. There are several brightness options, and ranging from fairly dim to surprisingly bright, easily controllable with the buttons on the back. The battery life seems good, though I haven't done enough testing to know exactly how many shots it's good for. I tested it with my Fuji XT-2 and it worked out of the box without issue.The packaging and build quality were really the standout things for me. It came well boxed inside a small semi-soft shell carrying case for transport in a camera bag, along with an included usb-c charger. The flash itself is metal, reasonably hefty though still lightweight given its size, with a nice quality feel and durable feeling buttons.Overall, for a small top mounted flash it's pretty good. If you want the maximum quality the big flashes will do you better, but for something to carry either as a backup or for travelling, this is very good.

This is a nice hot shoe mounted manual flash. The color and brightness are consistent. The mounting to the hot shoe is easy. The function of the flash with my sony a7iii is great. Power on and off, and selecting the mode are easy. The flash even remembers the previous level it was one when it is powered back on. I found this incredibly useful.The flash was easy to charge, it has a good quality USB-C charge port and easily plugs and unplugs. Charging seems quick, I've never drained it to zero, so charging to full has always been less than an hour. I've used this for events and casual shooting and it keeps up nicely.As listed, the mode is manual, not automatic. ***Plan for some testing with the different modes in different scenarios before relying on this to light up a critical shot***. It's very easy to quickly select the mode you want, or to change to a different mode. Since there is only one button, you do need to cycle between them all, so error on the dim side and work your way up.If you are using a bigger lense, you do get some shadow, but I do not typically use that flash/lense combo, but still something to keep in mind.I highly recommend having this flash in your camera bag. It works great and looks great too.

This little flash is very similar in form and function to the Godox iM20.Both are very simple and portable manual flashes.The output is good and there are 5 different power levels.On the lower levels the recycle time is pretty quick. It takes a few seconds to cycle in full power.The build quality in the zeniko feels nicer than the Godox, but the Godox has two buttons to adjust the levels vs 1 for the Zeniko. On the Zeniko, you'll have to just hit the brightness button to cycle through the power levels.The Zeniko's body seems to be aluminum which adds to the more premium feel.The Zeniko includes a custom case which provides more protection than the bag from the Godox.Both will have issues with longer/wider lenses due to the shadow they'll cast. This is ideal as an emergency fill light.
