I reluctantly bought this, assuming it was going to be plastic and about as durable and sturdy as a McDonald's happy meal toy. The package arrived today, and it was heavy. Turns out, this thing has 5 parts that are plastic, and those things are knobs and the handle and the whatever you call the sleeve where the router mounts. And all of those plastic parts are solid, sturdy material. The rest is solid and cleanly machined aluminum. I haven't used it yet, but I'm impressed with the quality of the product.

This Mortising Jig is not easy to use. The problems are enumerated below.1. The handle on top is held on to the jig by a single screw. It will loosen easily and a lock washer had to be added to make the handle some what stable.2. The maximum depth of the mortise is only 3/4 of an inch. This is not sufficient.3. Standard bits are too short to use with this jig, including the two that are supplied with the jig. Extra long (3 inches long) bits must be used and are not easy to find.4. Two screws are used to limit travel left and right. Locknuts had to be used lock down the setting. For these reasons I cannot recommend this unit for woodworking.
