It works great, we used it to put the eclipse this year on a big screen TV (had it powered up in the truck bed) so we didn't have to look up constantly until the actual moments.Have been using it to peep the sun spots lately as well, solar maximum is a good time to have a solar scope!

Pros:~Set-up was easy. 1st time having a telescope/mount and was very simple in putting together and use- Very light and easy to move around- Comes with compartmentalized bag for easy transport and/or storage of Telescope and accessories- Great view of the sun for the priceCons:- Tripod a bit of a pain on unlevel ground/thick grass, but that is to be expected w/ most mounts, I'd imagine- Fully extended tripod is a bit low for an adult to get into position and view for more than a few seconds without being uncomfortable. Will probably have to makeshift something to stand tripod on and also for person to kneel on for an extended view.Overall, I am happy with this telescope. It came easy to assemble, aim, and have in position. Everything came sealed up and new. Even backpack had a new kind of smell to it.The solar finder was a big help in getting the sun into the window and start observing. The safety of having the filter built in to the telescope was a big plus for me and will be for anyone newer to solar viewing. Forgetting to have filter on or tightening filter onto a telescope used for the sun can be a HUGE problem and risk with us that are forgetful and/or clumsy. We are humans...it happens ¯_(ツ)_/¯I was able to get the sun in view easily and was presented with a white, 2D circle with a bit of brighter white in the center and the rest a slightly more focused white. Could not distinguish any sunspots as of yet, but from looking at a few websites, there are not many big sunspots, at the moment, that would probably be able to be seen through this particular telescope. I am sure, with a few more views over this next week and learning the focusing on this telescope better, I will find some sunspots without many issues. If I am not mistaken, we are currently heading into the 11 year solar maximum, so this telescope can and would provide plenty of further use for solar viewing to those interested in the sun even after the upcoming eclipse on April 8th, 2024.I have seen plenty of people on the review complain about the mount that comes with this telescope.I have had no issues with it at all. It is very lightweight and I could see how trying to use it on uneven ground or in a windy environment could possibly affect someone using it effectively, I have so far had success using it on concrete/even ground.My only issue w/ this telescope was the low set-up. with the sun, mostly you will be looking pretty high up to see it. The eye piece(Picture for reference) ends up only a few feet off of the ground. Making it hard to find a spot/posture to effectively get into to view comfortably. I would recommend placing it up on something higher so that the eye piece ends up around 5 feet or so(Your height my vary) off of the ground or go lower and use a type of chair to sit in. Also, Even though you are using one eye for the eye piece, your other eye will experience a lot of light, even when closed. For that, what I did was put on a beanie and slated it over the non-viewing eye to help me be able to focus more on what I am looking at. Just a suggestion that did help me out. I'm sure using a blanket or other cover could also work out.In summary, I am glad I bought this and feel it was a good investment that will no-doubt take me down a rabbit hole of better solar viewing telescopes, in the future.Eyes skyward, My friends! El tornillo que ajusta la pieza de la imagen venía barrido inutilizando completamente el aparato. No lo devuelvo porque lo compré para ver el eclipse el día 8 de abril y no da tiempo de recibir uno nuevo. Tuve que pegarlo para usarlo y no perderme el eclipse.

This hunk of cheap plastic masquerading as a telescope failed within the first half hour of use. Despite being careful with it, the fastening screw stripped in the plastic mounting ring, meaning that the prism would not longer stay in place, and so any focusing of the eyepiece was impossible. I didn’t expect much from a bottom-end telescope, but this was a big waste of time and money.I used to harbour the notion that Celestron made okay - although cheap - astronomy equipment. But this (and another Celestron purchase) have made it clear that they just make complete junk and hope they enough inexperienced (usually well meaning grandparents or parents) will purchase their products to get Jane or Jake interested in the stars.Save your money and buy something better quality that will last longer than one or two trips to the backyard.

Pude ver el eclipse de octubre en Mexico, toda la familia pudo participar, valió lamprea cada centavo que pagué a cambio de compartir con la familia la experiencia de observar el eclipse. El campo de visión es Perfecto ya que puedes ver el sol completo cubriendo casi todo el campo de visión y se pueden observar hasta las manchas solares. La estabilidad es suficiente para el uso que se le dará ya que no es para observar planetas ni objetos de cielo profundo (no sirve para la noche). Su sistema de alineación es fabuloso proyectando una sombra y solo toma unos segundos alinear.

Lo compré para ver el eclipse del 14 de octubre.El enfoque es bueno y sencillo.Pueden verse algunas manchas solares.Es un telescopio pequeño y relativamente caro.Los ajustes del tripié (horizontal y vertical) son muy malos.

First, the vendor: 5-star. Product arrived promptly and well-packaged and was sold for a VERY reasonable price. Can't ask more from a vendor.Product: "proof of the pudding will be in the eating" on Aug. 21, but so far so good. I have set it up for several test runs and am very pleased so far. I found it to be as advertised: A handy, lightweight, solar viewing kit. It comes with the scope, star angle, eyepiece (20 mm), and carrying backpack. Plenty of spare room in the backpack for filter glasses, spare eyepiece, notes, etc. I disagree with the reviewer who felt it was cheap junk. Lightweight with many plastic pieces, yes, but that is a plus in my book, not a minus; particularly in this day and age of weight restrictions and flying to see an eclipse.. It is well made, easy to carry, set up and use and works the way it is supposed to. The plastic aiming gizmo on the side of the tube is easy to use (I wish aiming my big 20 x 80 binoculars was as easy!) works very well but takes a little practice to get it exactly right. The tripod IS very light and can move around in wind, but I hung a couple of (scuba diving) ankle weights on it and problem solved (and if you aren't flying somewhere, just carry and use a bigger, heavier, tripod.) Is it a replacement for a big refracting telescope with removable filters, no: but it costs a tenth of the price (and is a LOT lighter and easier to carry!), Do I want it as my only viewing device during a total solar eclipse, no-you'll want something without (or with removable) filters for the show during the totality. But for an easy to pack kit to have for partials and transits, and for viewing pre and post totality, it it hard to beat for the price.

Preparing for the Great American Eclipse has had me scrambling to get my hands on as many outreach tools as possible and this little scope has fit the bill nicely. While having a personal solar scope is great for the eclipse I realize doing outreach is a little difficult because everyone will want to look at the same time. That said my reason in purchasing this scope was to use more as a mobile imaging platform connected to a laptop or video display and to that end it doesn't disappoint.Upon opening the package I was pleased to find the same quality build I have come to expect from Celestron, it should be noted however that the telescope OTA is primarily a high impact plastic build which uses a very clear two element glass solar filter that completely eliminates glare and provides a very crisp image. Some of the other features that I applaud on this unit were their use of a simple 1/4 20 threading so that it can be easily mounted on the included tripod or other photographic mounts, inclusive of those found on larger telescope mounting rings. This allows you to use the best mounting option for yourself without breaking the bank or trying to find a specific dovetail receiver. Also the Sun Finder is one of the best that I have seen in its simplicity and effectiveness. Using the finder is very easy and although it too is made from plastic, it does have a heatsink on the back which keeps it cool. I wouldn't be surprised if Celestron were to market this as an aftermarket upgrade as many solar observers find themselves improvising or spending lots of money on simple manufactured items. Lastly i have to compliment the overall footprint of the scope as it is easily transported and the setup was very simple.While there are many great aspects, there are some areas that should draw your attention1. .096" drawtube does not allow you to easily mount imaging equipment that is generally standard 1.25" like a Nextimage camera. The diagonal is converted to 1.25" so using your eyepieces or the included eyepiece should not be an issue.2. The tripod is very lightweight and is susceptible to vibration, it is best that it not be fully extended and instead used on a table top giving it better stability in its retracted state.3. Before assembly I would make certain that all metal to plastic contact points i.e the diagonal are flush fit and snug while also being sure not to overtighten these points to avoid stripping.Overall I am pleased with the telescope and would recommend it especially at the price point since you are getting a dedicated piece of solar observing equipment for the similar price point that you would only find a filter for a telescope. I have upgraded my scope with a 8x24 Celestron zoom eyepiece, , which can give as much as 45x magnification and mounted it on a tracking mount so it eliminates the requirement to adjust.
