This is a nice device which pushes serial data over TCP/IP and can be installed on a DIN rail meaning you can have quite a few of these devices racked up together. The application provided via the WaveShare site makes connecting and configuring these devices very convenient. I can imagine a large bank of these devices controlling industrial equipment, CNC mills, and the like from a single computer for a very low price. In addition, the WaveShare website has excellent documentation and software downloads. The build quality is top notch and circuit design and layout is done correctly for preventing voltage surges into your network. The voltage range is quite generous as well from 6-36 volts DC in.So why four stars? Well, I'd love to give this five, but a couple things hold me back.- Chip markings erased: this is a big red flag especially from a company like WaveShare which can indicate the use of counterfeit chips.- Software is Windows only, I can see this type of device being more useful on Linux- There are claims of a virtual terminal via a web page; I don't see anything like that at least on the firmware installed on the device I received. A complete web experience without the need for a software install would put this in 5 star territory easily- It comes pre-configured with a static IP that's not documented. Mine was set to 192.168.1.254 yours may be too, so knowing that is helpful for using the web interface to set it to DHCP. Would be nice if it was DHCP out of the box.Overall, this is a fantastic device for a good price which will appeal to folks who need to control industrial equipment from a centralized windows computer. If that's your expectation, then you will be happy and likely order quite a few of these.

I tend to tinker a lot with unorthodox operating systems being installed on older, typically out-of-service, industrial micro computers. As a result, I end up using serial connections rather frequently. I used to just have a laptop with an old RS232 connection and cable, but this makes it even easier by letting me keep a dedicated web-page for serial connection purposes.I already had a din-rail installed in my server rack, with a 24v power supply for testing industrial switches, so this was easy to add to that rail and power.
