I'm always very leery of buying home improvement items sight unseen. You're never sure if something is going to fit correctly, and this bath plug was no different. After reading many of the glowing reviews and taking a few measurements, I decided to go ahead with the purchase. I'm happy to say that this plug fit the bill perfectly. I'm really happy. That said, I did in fact hear water trickle into the drain while the plug was engaged... it wasn't a steady leak, though, and only happened once. For taking a bath, it'll be unnoticeable; for long-term water storage (e.g. in case of emergency or the city shutting down the water while repairing a main), it'll "probably" be okay, but I wouldn't trust it for more than three days. The push-pull design for engaging/disengaging the plug is awesome. Sure beats anything else I've ever seen. Installation was surprisingly simple, too... and except for the rubber stopper, this plug is all solid metal construction, which is especially important for the pins.Measurements: Here are some of the things you'll have to determine before purchasing this plug.1. The first thing I measured was the diameter of what was left of the broken shaft (pin) on the old plug (cheap plastic!). It was .324" or something like that... in between 5/16" & 3/8", which are the sizes of the two pins that come with this Watco plug. I took a chance and figured the tub drain was designed to accept a 3/8" pin. If you don't have the old plug (like it's one of those things that has been missing for decades), you'll have to somehow determine the size of the hole in the center of your drain. Of course, if you don't have such a center hole, then you can't install this product.2. Actually, I wasn't even sure my tub drain was threaded or not. Looking down into it, I saw two perpendicular strips of metal spanning the drain hole in a '+' formation, with a small hole at the intersection; but I couldn't tell if that center hole was threaded or not. Using an angled pick, I rubbed the tip vertically along the inner edge of the hole. Sure enough, the pick "bounced" along a series of ridges as I moved it upward along the wall... and I assumed those ridges were indeed screw threads. [Big mystery of the day: Why wasn't there a piece of plastic from the old pin still screwed in there?]3. The last measurement I took was the inner diameter of the drain hole. I can't remember what it was, but I'm pretty sure I decided that it was a 1.75" drain hole. If yours is even slightly bigger than that, then I wouldn't recommend this plug for your tub! The rubber flap just barely has enough space left over to "grab" the tub surface in all directions and seal the drain.Using these measurements, the product description, and the many informative user reviews (thank you everyone!), I decided to go ahead with the purchase of this plug. It worked out great!Lastly, I have to be mean and deduct a half-star for the fact that there were no installation instructions included with this plug (ergo, my rating is really only 4.5 stars). Yeah, I know... I'm sure all these fixtures around the house are standardized and work the same way, but I'm not in the construction or home repair industry. Most people don't know how things work without someone showing them first; and I was especially lucky and didn't have to worry about removing an old plug first, as the broken one just lifted out of the pipe. Installation of the new Watco plug was easy enough to figure out (especially with the help of other reviews), but it would have been so much simpler if there was just a cheap little piece of paper with instructions on it. Heck, you could even put the instructions on the box itself.Regardless, I'm a happy camper with the new plug installed. More importantly, my WIFE is a happy camper with the new plug installed!!! :-) But I'm especially happy... she wanted to call a plumber to fix it, and that would have cost a lot more than $11 and probably would have used another cheap plastic part instead of a quality plug like this one. Thank you, Watco and Amazon!

If I knew how nice this looked, I would have bought this years ago. I'm in a rental, and they just had a useless gross drain sieve and archaic white drain plug that was stained black with mildew. I also bought (wasted more money than the Watco Stopper cost) on a few different flat drain suction stoppers because I didn't want to spend too much money since I'm in a rental. Nothing looked good, and nothing worked well, so I thought I'd give this a try. This little Watco stopper did the trick. It works well, looks wonderful, and I don't have to figure out where to store it when I'm not using it. I never needed a drain sieve, but I kept it to keep smaller things from falling down into the drain. The Watco stopper can be set so it keeps those things from going down the drain while still letting the water drain efficiently.

I don't do many reviews, but this one is worth it. This pieces is so much nicer than those chintzy plastic toe-tap ones you find at the big box stores that it's not even funny. It's made of actual metal (I know, crazy) and the 5/16 end fit flawlessly in our drain. Also, the screw head fits a flat-head screwdriver snugly making it easy to install and creating a leak-free seal unlike the plastic ones mentioned above. 5 stars! No, 10! Would buy again in a heartbeat.
