I have purchased inexpensive box fans and other mostly plastic fans that were inexpensive, but they never really lasted. I really wanted a classic vintage-style and heavy built fan and this was it. Yes, Vornado fans like this are expensive - and I was very weary about if it was worth the price. The looks are what made me buy it. This one is ALL metal (except for the fan blades, switch knob and feet). I bought the chrome Sr. It really is like an old appliance that was built to last with the great classic-vintage look.Since I purchased this fan almost 5 years ago I have used it in winter to circulate heat from my floor heater and summer to circulate the AC air. It has been running practically non-stop between low and high since I purchased it. I'm amazed at times when I walk past it that it's STILL running ?! And with a wipe-down now and then to remove the dust it still looks great !I've accidentally kicked it over, tripped on the cord and forgotten to turn it off while away for days and even weeks - No problem. After years of use, I thought I'd have to oil the motor, but the motor is completely sealed (per Vornado) so there is no need. This really is a heavy-duty built fan that looks and works great. I do not know anything about the plastic Vornado fans, but this type I would buy again if I ever found myself needing another.Take note though - I waited and bought during Winter/Spring and saved a BUNDLE on the price. Just like with AC units in Summer, you pay an outrageous premium during Summer time depending on who you buy it from.

The Vornado Vintage SR model fan will not disappoint. It is worth every penny. I researched fans all over the internet for a week and ended up buying this one. It is very good quality and very nice to look at. The cream colour is classy looking - a nice off white and can blend into any decor. I am glad I got the senior size and super happy I splurged on the vintage model.I was thinking of the regular vintage size but I am using it in my 12x17 bedroom so I got the SR size to be safe. Its amazing how you can stand anywhere in the room and you feel the air moving. I bought it because i have a stuffy house with super sealed windows so the air doesn't circulate so well. I have trouble sleeping with stagnant air. So if you have a room that is bigger than 10x10 I recommend the SR size model. You may be able to get away with the regular size but you would maybe have to run it on high and you don't want to do that constantly. It is not too loud running on medium or low and easy to sleep with it on all night.I can definitely see myself now being able to turn down the window AC unit I have in the warmer months as it just blows cold air in one direction and I cannot sleep well. This fan is excellent - I highly recommend it over any other fan you are considering. Just get it you won't be disappointed. Sturdy. Good quality. Nice to look at. I cant imagine buying a cheap plastic fan ever. You will not regret this purchase.

We live in a 1950's ranch house in Northern California. We don't have air conditioning, and there are only about 3-4 times a year when it gets too hot for comfort. Rather than install central air, we have decided to invest in some decent fans. The last fan we purchased was the Rowenta stand fan. It's whisper quiet so we use it in the bedroom. We are pretty happy with it but it doesn't move a lot of air. Once the house heats up during the day, even after it gets cooler outside, the fan can't easily pull the air into the house and it takes hours to cool down the house, even when it's cooled down outside. This Vornado is a floor fan, aka "air circulator." After we purchased it, we used it in a living room about 20' by 14'. It's ability to move air is impressive on high speed. On a particularly hot night, we moved it to the bedroom to use with the Rowenta. Using these together really cooled the room quickly. This fan can push a lot of air and the Rowenta was tall enough to pull in air from the window. In the living room we have sliding doors, so the floor fan works fine.NOISE LEVELS: The fan is powerful on high speed, and you can hear it. It sounds kinda nice but is not "whisper quiet" on the high power setting. On the lowest setting it's very quiet...I had to turn the light on to see if it was turned on one night. You can adjust as needed...blast it to get the bedroom air moving for awhile, and then lower for sleep if you don't like white noise.FUNCTION: This thing is powerful...it moves air. Three easy settings...high, med., low. Very high quality, all metal construction (except fan blades...which are plastic for better engineering).FORM: The retro styling and the green color with gold accents is really gorgeous. This is something that you are happy to have sit in the room all summer...it's a beautiful little object. Great retro styling with safe electrical and grate openings (the vintage ones were much too wide for safety) But, be warned, you will be spoiled and will never want a white plastic fan again.SIZE MATTERS: I wasn't sure if I should go with the regular size or the "Sr" size. I didn't want it to be too big in the space. But since we were staring down a heatwave and I wanted to see it at its most powerful, I went for the largest size. So glad I did. It's really not large at all, but even a small increase in diameter greatly impacts air movement. Unless you want to put this on a table, go for the large size.WOULD I BUY AGAIN? I loved this fan so much I bought a second one a week later. Considering a third one.

This is the coolest thing I've purchased from Amazon! I got the largest Chrome unit. The build quality is excellent. It really seems like something from the 50s. It's so rare to find something of this quality for this price.I live in the North East in a 100 year-old Victorian walk-up with no A/C. The old gray plastic Lasko box fans started to annoy me because they are so ugly and get dirty quickly, so I've tried a few metal fans - this is definitely the best for my needs. It's super quiet so doesn't drown out TV/Stereo. It's heavy enough so it doesn't vibrate the floor too badly (my downstairs neighbors are happy). It does direct a strong, narrow cone of air. Very surprising for the size!I'm glad I got the biggest one (it's cooling a room approx 120 sq ft, with 10 ft ceilings). The instructions suggest pointing this at the ceiling to circulate the air through the whole room. While this works - it's much better to point it directly towards where you are sitting.Vornado put some effort into the packaging and bookets as well - very retro looking. I'm kind of sad to throw the box away. Finally, my living room is mostly mid-century modern, so this really looks cool! I got the chrome one btw.
