Dash cam is an investment, because its sole purpose is to provide a peace of mind for any unforeseen incident that could happen on the road. Hence, reliability and picture/video quality of the cameras are of utmost importance. I had spent countless hours researching the best dash cam in the market, and A229 Pro is it. It records brilliantly day and night, for both front and back cameras. It automatically records when the car turns on, and off when the car shuts off. I power the dash cam through the outlet plug which was easier to install versus the hardwired battery method and it has been running seamlessly since day one. After owning the first dash cam for a month with reliable recordings with excellent picture and video qualities, I bought two more and have been using all three for almost 6 months now without any issue.What also impressed me in addition to the reliability and high-quality recordings of the dash cam is their customer support. Upon reaching out to Viofo about a feature, an actual person, not an automatic message, quickly replied back and checked up on my experience with the dash cam. Freja, the customer support agent that responded, is friendly and capable in assuring that Viofo stands behind their product and that if there are any issues, they'll be an e-mail or a phone call away to help. Highest recommendation to this dash cam for its quality and the company's customer-first approach.

I recently purchased the Viofo A229 Pro dashcam, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. After having it installed by a professional, the dashcam has exceeded all my expectations.First and foremost, the video quality is outstanding. The footage is crystal clear, both day and night, capturing every detail on the road. Whether it’s a sunny day or a dimly lit street, the A229 Pro delivers sharp, high-definition recordings that provide peace of mind while driving.The companion app is another standout feature. It’s incredibly user-friendly, allowing me to transfer videos directly to my iPhone within minutes. This makes it easy to review and save important clips without needing to remove the SD card or connect the dashcam to a computer.One of the features I particularly appreciate is the parking mode. It works flawlessly, offering continuous monitoring even when the car is parked. This adds an extra layer of security, as the camera can automatically record any incidents or suspicious activity around my vehicle.Overall, the Viofo A229 Pro is a fantastic investment. The new Sony sensors in these cameras are much better than anything that came before. There is a lot that goes into how well a sensor performs, it's way too complicated to explain, trust me these are the best on the market. On playback there is a slight motion blur, but if you pause the playback the images are sharp and clear. I can read car license plates a couple of car lengths away, easily read street signs and mailbox numbers. All dash cams are a pain to hardwire properly, no more or less so than this one. In my 2023 Rav4 Hybrid I chose to splice the hardwire kit (sold seperately) into my moonroof power wires. Much easier and cleaner than trying to get down to the dash. Also keeps the wires away from the airbags. There are kits that let you plug into the cars front safety camera, but I would not use them. I think it foolish to mess with a car's safety systems. There is a slight improvement when using the CPL filters. The main unit comes with one and I'd recommend ordering one for the rear camera as well (check the VIOFO website). I'd also recommend buying the VIOFO brand memory card. In my case I have all 3 HD cameras. That's a lot of writing to the SD card, especially if you use parking mode. Lesser cards might work for a while, maybe a few years, maybe a few months. With the money I put into this system I want to be sure it works properly for years. What good is it to save a few bucks, and then when you really need it you find the memory card is corrupted and you can't retrieve the video? If hardwiring or using parking mode the accessory wiring kit is a must. In fact you can't use parking mode without it. The cameras are well designed and easy to mount. The only thing that could have been better is if the wire from the main unit to the interior camera was available in a shorter length, say 6". Mine is mounted very close to the main unit and the extra 2.5 feet of wire has to be coiled up and hidden. I actually shortened mine to 6", but would not recommend it. It did show me how carefully VIOFO designed their units. When I cut the cable to shorten it, it wasn't an ordinary TRRS cable, it was double-shielded. The video wire had it's own shielding foil and wire wrap, then it and the other two wires were wrapped with shielding underneath the PVC outer cover. Re-wrapping both those shield after shortening and soldering the wires was a pain, even for someone who knows what they are doing. But it was a great design choice. VIOFO also uses a capacitor instead of battery in the unit. So it can handle high heat without damage, and unlike a battery it will likely outlast the rest of the equipment. The app lets you stream live video to your smart phone, which helps when aligning the cameras. But it doesn't stream over the web. You won't be able to see through your cameras unless you are in the car and connected by wifi. But the app is very useful for setting the cameras, changing settings, and downloading videos. One last thing about those dots on your windshield. If you think you might scrape them off to make a window for the camera, forget it. Those shade dots are ceramic and can't be removed. All in all, this was the best dash cam I could find for my purposes, I love it and highly recommend it.P.S. I almost forgot, the external wiring kit also has a battery saver feature. If you use the dash cam in parking mode, it will turn off before your battery drains too low. There are a few settings for how low it will go.
