I'm a collector so I own dozens of cameras, therefore have a handful of other Viltrox lenses and they ALL perform amazingly especially for their prices. When I purchased this, I also purchased the Sony 16mm 2.8, and the 7artisans 18mm 6.3 Mark ii. As you can tell I was in the market for a tiny pancake for my E mount cameras. In my mind the Viltrox was for sure going to be the best, and the Sony 16mm was going to be the worst (based on all the hate towards it online). Boy was I wrong. The Sony 16mm ended up being the best and I absolutely love it!But this review is about the Viltrox 28mm 4.5.Build quality was very good for the price. No complaints there. Seems to be mostly metal contruction, but even if it were 100% plastic I wouldn't have minded. This price point, it would be considered a fun/toy lens to play around with. But I tried it on a few cameras. Sony A6000, ZV-E10, A7C, and A7iii.Depending on the lighting, it is extremely easy to get hazy photos (as if you had a mist filter on). Not sure if it's light leak, or just how it was designed. Photo quality has already been mentioned in other reviews. Sharp in the center, but quickly degrades towards the corners (I didn't mind this part). The part that bugged me was that the 7artisan was fixed aperture and no focus, produced better images and it cost less. But the main reason why I returned it within hours of using it, is due to its auto focus. Sure, it's amazing that a lens this size even has AF. And I had read other reviews mentioning that its AF isn't the greatest. But I have lots of cameras with not so good AF and it never bothered me. This lens though, as perhaps the worst AF I have experienced in a while. My original X100 has better AF than this. It hunts, it breathes, it misses, more than 50% of the time. Ok, no problem I'll just manual focus. Oh, I can't! You're forced to live with it's horrible AF, and that was the deal breaker for me. I don't have the latest Sony bodies to test this on, but I've used enough bodies and lenses to know all I needed to know.

If you're looking for an amazing travel lens, this one is great!! The lens is super tiny and if you it on a smaller camera like an A7C or A7CII, it's essentially pocket size. The only major downside is the F4.5 aperture but if you're using a modern camera, you should be able to compensate the slower speed with shooting at a slightly higher ISO with minimal degradation to the image. If you're shooting on an older camera, it might be worth getting a faster lens instead or only shooting this when decent light is available. Overall, it's a pretty great performer and at $100 it's a pretty good bargain too.

The product description mentions that a lens pouch is included. My order did not include one. The lens itself appears to be well made and is amazingly compact. The auto-focus motor does make a faint buzzing sound which none of my Sony brand lenses make. Over all for the price this is a nice lens if you want to reduce weight to a minimum.

If you're looking for a super small pancake lens for your camera, this is a great option. I really am blown away by the size and weight. It is an insignificant addition to my a6300, and doesn't even extend past my camera's grip.Autofocus works well, and the lens overall looks quite sharp. When I first attached the lens my camera wouldn't recognize the focusing system, but after a few power cycles the problem fixed itsself.Aberrations seem to be near nonexistent. Lens flares are quite visible around small point lights, but are quite visually appealing with just straight white lines emanating in a star pattern.Very cool lens, especially with an APS-C near-50mm equivalent! I plan to use this lens when portability is a must or when I attach my camera as a webcam.

This is a very interesting lens. It's extremely low profile. You can't manually focus it, and since it's only one aperture you are either adjusting your shutter speed or iso to get a proper exposure. I found it works great on both a full frame A7s3 and a crop ZV-E10ii. I did have an issue where changing lenses and the ZV-E10ii was on that the lens froze the camera and it wouldn't do anything (even turn off). Had to remove the battery to turn the camera off and afterwards the camera and lens were fine.Shooting with it, as mentioned in the title I had a love hate relationship with it. Since you can't manually focus it you are dependent on what the lens decides and sometimes it will acquire focus and sometimes it would be slightly off. It was this way on both cameras for me. I found the image quality when it was in focus to actually be pretty pleasant, but sometimes the lens would just be very ugly results wise...like the lens element was made of plastic or something. The picture would be hazy, there would be weirdness to the look, and it just didn't seem right.I've attached a few sample images from the lens taken straight out of camera along with pictures of the lens on camera. The lens handled backlighting fine, but side lighting it starts get a big contrast wash out loss. Sharpness wise it's a mixed bag. It did get some pretty great sharp shots with a studio light. As a body cap that's an autofocusing only lens, I've never had anything better (or worse to be honest, since it's the only one I've ever used). It's an interesting concept. It felt at home on the ZV-E10ii and looked better on it than the A7s3, but both did admirably. For a general use and have fun lens, it's pretty awesome. The 4.5 isn't a major issue, but it's odd you can't change from it. I wish they made it a whole stop at 4.0.
