It’s the perfect size for my 6 gallon live planted cube betta tank. The corner design makes it fit snug off to the side without looking awkward like some cylinder style sponges. I have it hooked up to an Aquarium Co-Op nano air pump. Works very well, this sponge filter also plays nice with my air valve. I had the coarse nano sponge filter from Co-Op as well, but hated how coarse the sponge was. I felt like the water was still full of debris and not clear. However this Hikari Bacto-surge polishes the water so much better due to being finer and denser. Airflow with this thing also seems more focused. Just wish there was a way to attach an air stone, but it’s fine. The bubbles aren’t too aggressive with this one, have def seen worse. I highly recommend for ppl who need a sponge filter for a nano aquarium. The quality of this one far outclasses some other common options here on Amazon.

I have a 10 G tank, which has been operational for 6 months. I like the shape that allows it to sit in one corner. The worst part is taking the sponge filter apart to clean it, but sometimes I can get away with just dipping the whole thing in the "dirty" tank water I just removed and squeezing the sponge in it with everything still attached. I modified mine to cut off the spokes in order to insert a 1-inch-long air stone. I also added an air flow control valve in order to keep the air flow low for my Betta fish. The air output would be relatively low even without these modifications. However, I recommend also getting an air control valve if you have sensitive fish, depending on your air pump.I would recommend to anyone looking for an unobtrusive pump that won't take up much space. It's a great option for a small tank or if you don't have much else to hide an awkward-looking air pump.

Great little sponge filter for a 10g. If it’s well planted I’d feel fine with this on up to a 15g as well. Thick sponge that will not suck up baby shrimp or fish fry plus tons of surface area for bacteria. You can’t go wrong.
