This is a good tool to gauge the general light you are producing from your strobe and surroundings; however, it does take some practice and understanding of how your camera captures images. My camera tends to be a bit darker when I take an image, so it does take some practice to understand what this light meter is capturing and what you need in camera. Still, it works once you get the hang of it.

68/100Let me say up front that this meter DOES what it claims to do. My negatives are all based more on HOW they do it.For the price, they could have included the circuitry and display. THIS is an unnecessary APP that unnecessarily REQUIRES a phone. Too many failure points for real world photo and video work where everything that can go wrong will.ALSO . . . the “optics” or sensing unit is another issue. It’s a pretty cheaply constructed plastic box. For this price point, they could have painted on a racing strip or something. I also don’t like that you apparently can't turn it off if it has a battery in it. Removing the battery every time you stop shooting and reset is a pain in the posterior. So . . . It’s OK. It does what it claims in a clumsy manner. AND . . for the price, you can do better. I’ll never use it.Ultimately, is it worth the price? No. But that’s personal. If you live with a phone in your hand, maybe you’ll like it.

Light meters are an important tool for any photographer but the good news is that they're one of the few pieces of equipment that you can get at a serious value price. Of course like everything else related to photography you can pay a ton if you want to but there's some very good light meters available at extremely reasonable prices. Just an aside--there's a strong opinion with some serious photo/video creators that light meters are somewhat outdated in the digital world. Personally, I like using them almost as a 'second opinion' more than anything else.In theory, this is a decent enough light meter at a reasonable price. Once you get it connected with the phone app it works just fine. The bad news is that the Bluetooth connectivity is *very* temperamental and little explanation of the process is given in the documentation. I'm not sure this is the correct process but what worked for me is to open my Bluetooth connections under 'settings' (on my Pixel 8 Pro--if you're an Apple user I assume you'll follow a similar process) and to use the 'add new device' functionality. You'll see the device ('VBR PHO') and click on it as if you're going to pair with it. No pairing takes place, however. Then go back to the app, hit 'Scan' and it *should* connect.Once it connects it works well. If you lose the connection, the best way I've found to re-establish it is to do a battery pull on the meter and turn your phone Bluetooth off and back on. That sometimes works. Bottom line--since learning the tricks above I can get it to connect on the first try about 60% of the time. Maybe you'll have more luck with this than I did but I tried it on my phone and my wife's phone and had a similar experience. It's a shame that they didn't tighten up the connectivity experience because that's pretty much the only thing that separates this device from my primary light meter costing significantly more. My high end light meter connects every time without fail. If they could get this issue worked out they'd have a solid winner. As it is, a decent device at the price if you don't mind dealing with the connectivity issues.
