This is an impressive bike lock. It is more versatile than the bike lock I used when growing up.Provided are three cables of varying lengths (the shortest is attached to the lock in my picture). The usable lengths, according to my measurements, are as follows:Approximately 8.5”Approximately 23”Approximately 46.75”The measurements shown in the product specifications for each cable are tip-to-tip versus exposed cable after each tip is inserted into he lock. From what I can determine, approximately .25” of each tip goes inside the lock. This in no way is a problem with the product. Each cable is easily interchangeable after the lock is opened. A small flat head screw driver tool is provided to assist with changing out the cables (the tool is used to slide a tip unlocking mechanism after opening the lock). The cable tips seem to have a solid engagement mechanism inside the lock, making them difficult if not impossible to pull out of the lock. The cables have stranded metal cores, making them impossible to break by hand. I am guessing it would be very difficult to cut a cable with a heavy set of hand cutters; however, I do not think they could resist the force of a classic bolt cutter like that used for heavy padlocks or combination locks.Changing the combination code is an easy process after the lock is properly opened. Any 4-digit numeric code from 0000 (a common default code) to 9999 may be set. There may be a little “play” on one or more digits as you rotate each dial. Be sure when dialing a combination that each target digit is perfectly facing up with the side digits being clearly displayed on either side. If the target digit is not directly facing and a side digit is partially covered by the edge of the lock’s face, then your code may not be proper. In addition to visual verification, there is a feel of engagement as each digit is rolled across the top of the display. With a little practice, you will be able to feel each digit engage in addition to visually verifying,This lock will certainly secure a bike or gate or other device against someone walking by and attempting to open or remove the secured object by hand.

This is a great lock, it comes with 3 different size cables. I own another version of this and this is my second unit, this is how good it is, I had to get another one. You can use the small one to lock bike seat, near objects or long one for suitcases in hotel. Great lock for travel!
