The Van Ness Cat litter box arrived fast! This Cat box hit all my check boxes for a litter box. It is well made, durable and still light weight. It comes with the bottom portion turned upside down inside of the top and is super easy to assemble. I took the sticker off the flap at the front and had to re-attach it, which was also super easy. I like that it has a filter that helps eliminate odor, and that its fully enclosed, both for privacy for my cat and for my bathroom. It's nice not actually seeing the cat litter exposed. It also helps with the usual litter spillage that I had from my previous litter box.My cat is still just a kitten, and was able to get in and out easily. It's also large and sturdy enough to take him well into adulthood. Also the material seems very easy to clean.Even though it is very durable, it is lightweight and once you clamp down the 4 clamps (2 on either side) you can carry it with the handle.Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend this product.

I have the blue one of these that i bought elsewhere a few years ago and i wanted another one to replace a litter box without lid. The cat that uses the regular non-lidded box likes to play in the litter and make a huge mess. I swear to you she throws it in the air and then tries to catch it or hit it with her paws! Well, ive had enough of that and decided to add another lidded and get rid of the open so i ordered another one here at Amazon.I received a nice cream colored one instead of the blue. That was fine with me because i really do not care about the color and i actually think it looks nicer than another blue one... the cream color blends into the room more and doesnt "stick out" as much as the blue one does. I am tempted to order another one and see if i get another cream one and then get rid of the old blue one.I like these litter boxes because they contain the sight and the smells, and they prevent *most* of the litter from tracking.I do take the flap door off though. Its snaps right on and off. The oldest cat never liked it on and i just took it off the new one too because the younger cat is used to seeing the other one without it. The box still provides odor and tracking control just fine without the flap and the mess inside is still hidden since its domed and framed in the front. Also, theres a huge sticker on the front of the flap and you have to soak and scrub it to get it off. It covers pretty much the whole flap and does not peel off nicely at all. It shreds and tears and leaves the white paper residue and nasty mess behind in the areas where you can get it peeled some. So, it would def need soaked and scrubbed. If you dont mind the sticker, i guess its no big deal, but if you would want it off be prepared for the extra steps to do so.The latches on the sides are secure. You can lift and carry or move the box around as needed by the top handle and it wont break or pop open. The foam thing thats supposed to be an odor filter is more of a gimmick i think. It is just foam, not charcoal.. the charcoal ones do provide odor control. It slides in to the vented slot on top and if you took it out and covered the slot with anything else, i think you would have the same odor control simply because the vents are blocked. If nothing is in there then odors are gonna escape. The nice thing about the foam though is that it does allow for some ventilation which i think is necessary and i am sure the cats appreciate it, too.I would absolutely buy this same brand and style again whenever i need another box. My first one was bought about 15 years ago for a cat that has now passed. That one was thrown away when he passed. Then i rescued our senior cat and bought her one about 6 years ago. Our youngest cat is just about a year old now, rescued and was bottle fed and is now happy and healthy... an ornery.. so, this one for her is our third and i would not hesitate to buy another.

This litterbox is an excellent size. It's not unusually tall in my experience, in spite of what other reviewers say, coming up below knee level on me (I'm 5ft 9in = 175cm). The pan is just a bit deeper than the average box. Our cat is petite (4kg), 7 years old, and still has absolutely no trouble climbing into the box. It would be a tricky climb for a kitten, but you should always use a smaller tray with kittens. The high tray is actually very helpful; if a covered litterbox has a shallow pan, then cats (especially male cats) may relieve themselves too close to the side and you'll get dripping down the outside. Not with this litterbox -- the tall prevents that. The door is excellent because it completely covers the opening (which helps to prevent smell), swings very freely in both directions so that it's easy for my cat use, and it's firmly attached. Other swinging-door litterboxes tend to fall off over time, which is annoying. This one doesn't do that. It's very well-attached.The plastic is nice and sturdy, not flimsy. The top snaps securely into place, and has an air filter on top that really helps prevent smell, while still allowing a little air flow for the cat. We clean the litterbox once a day, and never notice any serious odor. Ours shipped with the top the same color as the bottom (blue), and it has a nice sleek look to it.If you've never used a covered litterbox before, you'll love it. It really reduces mess and smell, and a lot of cats prefer the privacy. If your cat has never used one, here's how you teach them to use it.(1) Show the cat the litterbox without the cover, and let them use it a day or two, cleaning as normal.(2) Once your cat is used to the uncovered tray, wait for a time that the litterbox is dirty, and put the cover on without the door attached. It's important that the pan is dirty when the cover first goes on, so that your cat can smell their own scent inside and feel comfortable.(3) After your cat has gotten used to using the litterbox without the door, attach the door (again with the litterbox dirty). Back up a step or two if needed and try again for nervous cats.Always make sure your litterbox is in a stress-free environment, so that your cat feels comfortable doing his or her business and isn't tempted to soil. Especially keep dogs and other stressors away when your cat is learning to use her covered box.

We have a kitten that loves to flick its litter everywhere. With this, it can flick to its hearts content, and we can hear him inside, flicking, and everyone is happy. He has no problem getting in or out.It is big, but works for us.

I bought this litter tray because with the one my cats used before litter always ended up all over the floor. The door of this litter tray is not great but I took it off and most of the grit still stays inside.I was worried that the cat's might associate this tray with their cat carrier which they associate with much hated visits to the vet - the mere sight of the carrier is usually enough to send them running for the cat flap not to be seen for hours afterwards. But they got over their initial suspicion in no time and now use it happily.
