This is a terrible solenoid, by far the worst I've ever used. I would have thought something was wrong with mine if I didn't have the same experience as other reviewers. Whatever factory produced it had absolutely no idea what they were doing. It is pretty heavy and does consume the rated current, but it just doesn't seem to translate to any pulling/pushing force. The spring holding it out isn't strong yet it can hardly pull it all the way back in. I doubt it's producing 10g of pulling force, let alone the specified 100g.I've used other solenoids that consume the same amount of power at 5v yet produce in excess of 100g peak force. I can't see a situation where this solenoid would actually be strong enough to do anything. It is actually that bad.Solenoids are good, but this one is bad. Please look elsewhere.

When given 5 volts it often does not have enough power to counteract the spring that holds it up. Was able to make it work and for the price it does okay. Would go with a more powerful option in the future just to save the hassle.
