We have a 3rd Gen Nest without a C-wire that can barely hold a charge for day anymore. I'd have to take it off the wall and charge it with a USB cable every night to get through the next day. Thought I'd give this battery a try to replace it and see if it held up better. It's working fairly well to hold a charge now. It still goes offline every now and again as the battery gets low but it's able to now recharge itself back to 3.8V eventually meaning I don't have to take it off the wall anymore to manually charge it. With my old battery it would just shut down. The kit includes everything you need to replace the battery, even a little piece of double sided tape to hold it down. It's is easy to miss in the tape package so keep an eye out for it. You'll need this to stick down the new battery or else it will flop around inside the thermostat. The screwdriver is surprisingly great for a free included screwdriver. It has a little knob on the end that spins which makes it easy to quickly remove screws.I wouldn't call this repair difficult but you should be comfortable taking things apart. There are no directions included in the box. The listing mentions a video but there was no link or anything I could find. You can search online and find several other videos showing how to take apart the Nest. For the 3rd generation you only need to remove 6 screws total. The two large ones on the back plate (you don't need to remove the small screws that hold the wall connection), then 4 screws under that panel to reveal the battery. The repair is pretty straightforward but you can destroy your nest if you're not careful so go slow. The only real challenging part is getting the battery connector off the and getting the new one on. You have to be very careful not to rip the connector off the PCB. There was a little bit of padded sticker on mine I had to scrape away with the included spludger. Then a light pull up and it came off. Getting the new battery seated was more challenging given how small it is. I thought I had it all the way in but when I put it all together and connected to the wall I got a very rapid flashing red light and it didn't work at all. I re-opened it and pushed the connector forward a bit more witht he spludger and it clicked into place. After that it worked fine.As a tip before you re-assemble the device fully, plug in a usb cable so it boots up, then unplug the cable once you can see anything on the display. If you did everything correctly the display will stay on. If not, it will instantly go dark when you remove the cable. That should save you having to take it all apart again like I did.Overall I think this is a great little kit to replace an aging Nest battery. It won't work miracles, you really need a C-wire on these things to avoid them eventually shutting down. But at least I no longer have to charge mine every single night.

My Nest Learning Thermostat is a few years old, and doesn't have a "C" wire connection from the furnace, so the only time the battery gets charged is when the furnace is running. The battery would dip below the level the thermostat would allow for it to connect to the network and thus would drop off the network, so no remote or assistant access. It saves its battery so it can still measure the temperature and control the furnace. So I replaced the battery two months ago with one of the replacements available here on Amazon and that only lasted two months. I kept an eye on the battery charge level and noticed it was borderline most of the time.I saw this higher capacity rated battery available so decided to try it. So far, the thermostat hasn't dropped its connection after a few weeks of use include a full week away from home, where the furnace doesn't run as often as I have it set to a lower temperature, so not as much charging. This battery also has consistently stayed well above the 3.7V cutoff and has remained connected to my network.

My Google Nest Learning thermostat battery ran out of juice and this looked like a good deal. The batteries in these devices are pre-installed “permanently” so that was a bit odd after less than one year. So I checked out the YouTube videos about how to replace it. Once you get a replacement battery, you have to pretty much dismantle the thermostat and there are a lot of screws to manage,… but it looked quite straightforward.I opened up the thermostat and removed the existing battery. This was quite easy, though the battery was fixed to the thermostat using Command strips (or similar) that did *not* come off easily. Once the battery was freed, it was a matter of popping off the tiny three-wire connector that attaches the battery to the thermostat. That came off cleanly. The problem came when plugging in the new battery connector. As mentioned, it’s a tiny three-pin plastic piece with three wires coming out of it. Basically identical to the one I removed. These connectors are common in electrical devices. But in this case, it would NOT go in. I struggled with it for a long time. It is very fiddly being so small, but I’ve attached things like this in the past in computers and the like and it’s a matter of lining it up in the slot and sliding until the wires make contact, Here’s where the wheel fell off. After many attempts to plug in the battery connector, the entire thermostat connector piece broke off revealing the bare solder points. Aaarrgh!.In the absence of a micro soldering iron and the skills to apply it, I can now no longer attach any battery to this (quite expensive) thermostat. This little piece of plastic has basically deep-sized a rather expensive device. I have been told, though I haven’t checked, that Google Nest thermostats don’t need a battery as long as they have a C-cable attachment available. Mine doesn’t, but I will try using a Power Connector to replicate having one and see if that works. Otherwise, I’m out a couple of hundred dollars on the thermostat.I would give this product only one star, but I’ve been merciful since at least a part of the problem is likely my ham-fisted connecting skills. But I really think it should have attached easily and simply, without any wrestling and cursing.Of course, I have no idea if the battery actually works ok, because I never got to that point. So two stars it is.

I ordered this battery to replace the battery in my Nest 2nd generation Smart Thermostat.I was looking for a compatible battery that had at least the same ratings as the OEM in the thermostat. Many suggested for the Nest do not. This one exceeds the ratings from my original. Per our favorite AI reference source:"The candidate battery with 3.7V and 2.33Wh / 630mAh is a valid and even slightly superior replacement for your original battery. Here's why:- Voltage (3.7V): Matches the original, which is essential for compatibility with your thermostat's circuitry.- Energy Capacity (2.33Wh): Slightly higher than the original (2.1Wh), meaning it can store more energy and may last a bit longer between charges.- Milliamp-Hour (630mAh): Also higher than the original (~568mAh), further supporting a longer runtime."First of all the battery is *very* well packaged, (nice!), and comes with a spudger and small screwdriver that fits the very, very tiny screws used in this unit. Both tools worked quite well. After installing however, I am not 100% sure if this new battery is actually working properly or not. My thermostat *continues* to complain that the battery charge is low and it needs to "shut down to conserve battery power"... Which is what it had been doing with the original battery. So either my original battery failed and this new replacement battery is also having issues, OR the circuit board in my HVAC system is failing to consistently provide power to the thermostat to keep it charged.I have charged it manually (via the small camera/headphones sized power port on the inside back of the unit), and that seems to temporarily alleviate the issue, but then it returns, which would seem to point to the HVAC system. Except this is not consistent. After it complained about low battery power and the thermostat actually shut down the other night, I manually charged it for like an hour so we could at least get it booted back up to get some heat in the house. It's been running fine for several days since then. One hour of charge (from zero) should not last that long I wouldn't think, so it seems it's still getting charged from the HVAC. At least to some extent. So, I'm perplexed. Clearly I need to have the system checked by the HVAC folks. In the meantime I've given the battery 3 stars (middle rating) until I find out for sure where the issue lies. If it turns out to indeed be a problem on the HVAC side, then once that's fixed I will see how the battery performs and adjust this rating as appropriate.

I have a 3rd generation Nest thermostat that receive the low battery error, so I ordered this replacement battery pack. It is well packed and beside the replacement battery, it also came the tool. The battery fits my Nest thermostat perfectly. I took a little longer for me to complete the battery replacement but the tool really help with the very tiny screws. I need to charge the battery with my external charger after I installed this replacement battery. It worked fine after that. I highly recommend this product.
