I have two of these Honeywell Home smart color thermostats: I purchased model RTH9600WF in white for our home first. I liked it so much that I wanted a second one for our vacation house. At that time the gray one (model RTH9585WF) was discounted $50 less and that’s the only reason I bought gray the second time. I am almost as happy with the gray as I am the white—they seem identical except for the exterior color and (see more below on this): the gray one does NOT have the automatic setting. The gray is actually a very nice metallic silver. It looks quite pretty. I’d even call it elegant.I really like that these thermostats are very easy to install and connect to my WiFi, and they are easy enough to operate without having to read the instructions. The feature I like the most is the ability to set up my planned vacation IN ADVANCE. I don’t have to wait until the last minute to do that before leaving. I just go into the settings under “vacation mode”, select the date and time I am leaving and the date and time I am returning, and the temperature I want to maintain while I am gone. It’s nice to be able to do that well in advance of my actual vacation if I want to.About the only thing I don’t like about the grey thermostat is that it does not have the “automatic” mode that switches between heat and cool when needed in order to maintain the programmed temperatures. You have to set it to either cool or heat and as the seasons change you need to switch from one to the other yourself. The white one DOES have the automatic feature. If I had realized that ahead of time, I would have spent the additional $50 and bought a second white one instead of the grey. That feature is important to me.I do not use the smart color feature on either one of my thermostats. I like the default color of blue the best and it seems to be the easiest for my husband and I to read. The phone app works okay for me and I was able to easily add the second thermostat.I like these thermostats and recommend them.I write honest reviews to help others make informed purchases because I read reviews myself and appreciate how helpful they can be. I hope that my reviews helped you.

I purchased this unit for the natural gas powered, central air HVAC my new home, as I had one in my previous home in Canada and I still have the same one in our home in Florida. It was important to me to have them all on the same app, they are all on wifi, which is important for us, and we are familiar with the operation. of this unit. My wife is also not too tech savvy so she welcomed a similar thermostat in our new place as she understands how to use it, which is very easy. The install was 5 wire, and was not difficult at all, but it is IMPORTANT that a "C" wire exists in your HVAC system, as this is what POWERS the thermostat. If there is NO "C" wire in your system, this will NOT work. The only downside for me is that I find that the background color looks "grainy" or "speckled", and not "solid', like my other Honeywells which have a noticeably solid color background. I am not sure why this is, and I have tried different colors, different settings etc. However, functionally, the thermostat works perfect, most preferences are easy to personalize (although I had to go to youtube to find out how to change from F to C as it was buried in the settings) and it keeps temperature. The Honeywell Total Comfort app is great as well for remote use. Recommended.

Installation was easy other than getting it set-up with the Honeywell account. I'm using it at work for a radiant tube heater. The device wasn't detected at Honeywell even though it connected to the Internet no problem. I actually left it for several months because I didn't have time to reset it to factory defaults and start over again. This is for my shop at work and the guys needed heat. So I just got around to trying again about a month ago and it is recognized now (without resetting to default). Not sure when it was recognized on my Honeywell account, might have been 2 hours later, 2 weeks later, 2 months later. Don't know because I just checked it again recently. LOL. So not sure I would hold that against them. Once it was recognized on my Honeywell account then it worked great through the app and web page; exactly as expected.Today I decided to connect it to my Amazon Alexa devices we have scattered around the office and shop. Downloaded the skill and it works great. Very simple to use. "Alexa what is the temperature in the SHOP?", "Alexa set the SHOP to 70 degrees." Works perfectly and very quickly. I like it so much that I came on here to give a review and also to buy another for the office.I read a review where someone who bought this wasn't happy with the screen. Made me take a second look at mine. It is dull when its not in use but as soon as you press the screen it brightens up. You can see this in 2 of the pictures I attached. Everything is personal preference of course and I'm not discounting what the other buyer said, but I find the screen looks great. Full disclosure, this is my first smart thermostat so I'm not comparing it to anything else.

I'm not sure why people here are saying this was hard to install? I am not an HVAC tech, and I didn't even have a C wire and I Got this working in 5 minutes. See the end of my post if you want to know how to do that...Love the easy to use interface on the panel as well as the web app. Now that I have a schedule set I don't really need to mess with it. One feature I really like is on the name plate it also states the outside temperature! :) It pulls this from the internet so you don't need to run a separate thermistor outside. It has ended all debates about whether the house is too hot or too cold in my house. Now that I can lock the programming, my girlfriend can't crank the heat to 25C in the middle of the night. I've been perfectly comfortable since installing it. :PInstalling without a dedicated C-wire. I have an older furnace and had four wires in the wall, one of them was G for the furnace fan. You can use the G wire as the C wire...To do this, connect the G wire to the C wire terminal on the new thermostat. Now go to the furnace, open up the panel and locate the G-wire. It should be labeled on the terminal so this is easy to find. You are going to move this wire to the C-common terminal, and, you will need to use a wire to connect the Common (C) terminal to the G terminal. The box came with a little white cable which is what I used to do this. It may not be long enough for you, it was for me. The only draw back to doing this is that you will be unable to run the fan independently of heating and cooling which I NEVER do anyways.
