With my family in HVAC, I have been exposed to infrared thermometers for many years, but this is the nicest infrared thermometer that I've seen in this price range. I can't imagine much more you could want out of an infrared thermometer. The display looks fantastic, and is very easy to read. The manual is complete, but slightly off in the length of time you need to hold down the buttons for a long press. I like the fact that this uses AA batteries, but it would be better if supported an 18650 battery. At least it doesn't use a 9v battery, like some other models do.You get 5 main modes of operation:1) Instant temp2) max temp3) min temp4) average temp5) temp differenceYou can also set an alarm, that will notify you, if the temp goes above or below a preset value, which can be handy in some specific use cases. This is a very handy tool that I can recommend, especially if you want to measure the temp of something without touching it.

I basically wanted this item for 2 reasons; keep accurate track of my grill temperature and the same for my baking steel. I'm also having fun determining if my oven temperature is accurate, as well as what's going on with my fridge and freezer temps! I have a stovetop griddle insert and it's working well for that, too.The thing that's confusing me is the emissivity button. I understand what it's for but I'm unsure of how to set it so I'm getting the correct reading for the object I'm measuring. I'm unclear on whether or not you need to know if an object has high, medium or low emissivity before you can get an accurate read? I'm sure other reviewers with more scientific brains than mine will address this issue, but for now, it's the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5.Otherwise, it seems to be reading accurately based on my test studies of my oven, fridge, freezer and griddle!

I used this thermometer to measure my pizza steel on an outdoor burner. It seemed to give me good temps that I thought were appropriate. But first I measured surfaces around the house and they were most likely correct. But when I went back to those surfaces after measuring the high temp, they were all 20 or more degrees higher-definitely wrong. Tried to turn it off and on the same readings were seen. Unit is defective.
