Compact size is great, but the sound seemed over-processed and over-compressed. I don’t use much overdrive or distortion, and I think that’s what this pedal is ideally suited for. Build quality seems good. I returned the unit.

I'm a huge fan of dUg's early/mid 90's four string tone - lots of timbre with nice high distortion. I am also old enough to not want to carry a big rig anymore.... ever again... ever.... So, having switched to in-ear monitoring, I was looking for a pedal to get tones I used to lug big things around to get. I had settled on a line6 system for a few years that was "good enough". I decided to give the Tech 21 dUg pedal a try after I heard their head in action. I am a fan of this pedal! I match it with a sure wireless/tuner peddle, and an octivator. Oh yeah! I don't use the "dUg" signature settings as it makes a bit of an extreme tone for my cover band needs. Also, I play with my fingers so if i need a creamier tone, i just get the fleshy tips going. When i need some bite, I hit it hard and she growls. The point is, I have one killer setting I always use, and vary the sound with my playing technique, therefore, I can't comment on the flexibility of the tones out of the peddle itself. With a gentle application of the octavator, I am THRILLED with the sound i have now, especially in the mid and upper registers. Although I have had no issues with them, the knobs are a little "plasticy" feeling and get turned easily going in and out of my gig bag.I've been using the dUg over a year and gig with a rock band most weekends - inside and outside. lots of heat and humidity. Multiple drunks have spilt drinks on it. Never an issue. I would buy again, and recommend to you.

I have been playing bass since the mid 90's. I enjoy playing but apparently I have been out of the loop when it comes to a bass preamp with a DI. I have a SWR Workingman 15 as my primary amp. With the dUg, I can go straight into the effects return. Additionally, the dUg has a headphone output! I also use this via XLR direct out into a Samson PL-1602 and into very modest Mackie studio speakers and it sounds INCREDIBLE!!!!You can get many sounds out of the dUg. Even if you are not looking for a distorted signal, it's great for clean sounds (plus you get a compressor and a tuner). With the distortion on, you can get this to sound like Farewell to Kings Geddy Lee easily (or many other great players).UPDATE 12/24/2022 - I am still loving this pedal. I have noticed a headphone output is not that common for this type of pedal. I am enjoying this feature tremendously. It's so convenient. BTW - I can get a great Tim Commerford sound with my Stingray and this pedal. Overall, I keep all the tone controls on the basses at zero on active basses or all treble on the passive basses.

Nothing to dislike at this time. Very happy with the unit.
