This hat is well made, good sun protection, foldable, comfortable and definitely water proof. Downside is it can get warm in sun although this is necessary for water proof function.

Looking for a hat for golf and gave the Outback Storm hat a try. Construction is solid and the hat comfortable to wear. The brim is wide enough to keep your face and neck protected from the sun but I have reservations about the ventilation.I've got a fear that in the warmer months, the hat will become an oven. I would have liked more ventilation to allow for airflow and a detachable chin strap. I ended up exchanging the hat for the Ventura from Sunday Afternoons. Not sure if the ventilation will be any better but it's definitely a lighter hat.

This is a very nice and high quality rain and sun hat. I have never owned a "boonie/booney" hat before. My primary reason is that I just do not feel I look serious in one. I took a chance on this one due to being intrigued by the fact that the brim is asymmetrical. The rear brim is 3" while the front brim is 2". The transition is so gradual you do not really notice, but it does change the appearance when worn. Would still prefer a narrow brim but they just do not exist unless you go to a bucket hat.The head size adjustment is brilliant and functional. The "buckle" is thin enough and small enough that I cannot feel it when worn. This is significant as my wife says "The Princess and The Pea" is not a work of fiction, but my biography. The brim is designed with a "hinge" on either side which allows one to fold the hat for packing in a bag. New, this feature is inconspicuous in use. How it holds up over time is an unknown.I have the taupe color and consider it just the right tone for a brown / tan shade.I received this hat as part of a promotional so the timing in the year was poor for hot sun use evaluation. I wore it on a dry and sunny three mile hike at moderate temperature and did not get uncomfortable at all. I have worn it on a 45 minute walk in the moderately heavy rain and it did not soak through nor did the seams leak.

This hat is really similar to ones by Columbia and REI's store brand - we shopped around. Those are a similar price point so I personally would go with one of those brands just because the longevity and quality is more guaranteed. However, this is a good hat that does perform well wet or dry and offers sun protection, so if it goes under $50, it would be a solid buy.Sizing is accurate - my husband normal wears an XL (or XXL if available; hat size 7.5-8) and the Large I received through Vine was a too tight. He can still get it on, but it's not comfortable. I wear a Women's M-L hat and can wear it just fine. :)
