Excellent and thought provoking stories and ideas for Shabbat table discussions with family, friends, and guests

This is a stunning book, not just because of its beautiful illustrations and clever thematic colour-coding, but because of the brilliant combination of rigour of thinking and love that has so clearly gone into it.In this ever more polarised world, we are losing the art of nuanced conversations, of listening to each other and of disagreeing heartily but respectfully. “Stories for the Sake of Argument” is a marvellous antidote to this.Through different stories and scenarios, readers (and listeners around the dinner table - I’ve tried it!) are pushed to challenge themselves (and, around the table, each other) to confront and explore clashes in beliefs, values, approaches and more.Whilst the stories are specific (they are all based in Israel) this book transcends the individual scenarios within it. Instead, it shines a light on the importance of, and joys of, arguing well about any topic or scenario.I heartily recommend this book as a gift for yourself - it will certainly enliven dinner with friends and family - for teachers, and as a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah present. Also, if you are feeling brave it would make a unique engagement or wedding gift - as it provides great guidance on mastering the art of healthy arguments!
