Works fine for about 6 mos, then the ground pin comes loose and the ground pin wire breaks inside soon after. Always shows open ground and the GFCI test capability dies, too. The voltage sniffer is TOO sensitive, so I have to keep another around to be more specific. Had a friend that opened it up...added a stronger wire and an external screw to secure the ground pin and wire...lasted years.

Used to replace two GFCI outlets so far. As a non-electrician doing DIY projects I needed a dummy proof way to verify AC power shutoff instead of a multimeter. I chose this after reading many reviews and watching countless YouTube videos. Does the job, gives me peace of mind, adds useful bonus features.

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to use the non contact function properly but it works great. It’s not as sensitive to the touch as other non contact testers but it functions properly. Over utility lines up with the build quality and total value. The plug tester accuracy is also correct. I tested this myself. Not the most durable tester on the market but can be a good replacement from having to carry multiple testers if you work on electrical installs or systems daily.

I own several circuit testers along with multiple multi-meter units. I do like this one for a couple of reasons; 1) it isn't small (which is usually the biggest issue in locating the others. 2) it is easy to grip when testing a receptacle as some of the newer receptacles have built in "child proof" features to impede efforts poke something randomly into them. Multi-meter and short wire leads fail here as you really have to put pressure to work them into the slots. One thing I did initially miss at first was the battery (the L1154F "button" type battery is encased in the plastic packaging on the back. After checking on-line I first looked around the shop to find a compatible button battery (LR44). Installed and used to test the unit for non contact live wires. Another bonus was the button needs to be held down and which initially beeps once to indicate unit is ready for testing. I like this feature as you can then toss the unit into a tool bag without the worry of self draining the battery. This is a common problem with past non-contact pencil testers I own.Overall first impressions are that it is a good solid unit. I'll be wiring a new outdoor prefab tool shed with electricity shortly so I will update this review with other findings of note...
