Not sure why anyone would make a rod without a hook catch anymore, but I have several that do not have them. This is a simple and affordable solution that will extend the life of your rod if you are hooking lures on to the guides.Easy, intuitive installation, although there is no guidance provided. The package came with enough to convert six rods. If you need more than this, then you should join my support group.

***Update*** I had 3 of the small sized o-rings break after a month. Each holder uses two rings. Because it is a tight fit, putting these rings on was a challenge in the first place, so not sure if I damaged them without realizing it, during the install process. Removed 2 stars as a result of the rings breaking.***I used these for my small ice fishing rods that I use for automatic fisherman. The combination of my ice stopper bobber and long leader prevented me from putting the hook on an eye, and I don’t like sticking them into the cork/foam handle. These worked perfect.I don’t see much use for the magnet aspect. It isn’t needed/practical when this is applied directly to the rod. Yes the magnet alone can hold the hook, but it would be too easy to get the hook snagged and pulled off. I suppose if someone was using this as a temporary lure/hook holder, mounting it on something metal (not aluminum) it could be helpful.
