It was pretty tricky to install and took some fiddling with sensitive adjustments. I am pleased it's working well. Designed for 500,000 openings it should outlive me.It's flexible - there are several different ways to install it but I needed to watch multiple utube videos to understand the concepts. It was my first closer install.

I have installed two other similar door closers in the past year and the installation has been roughly the same for all three. This one is installed on a door out the back side of our garage. This is a metal door, so it is deceptively heavy, but this closer handles the weight and closes the door easily and smoothly. The only criticism I have of this closer compared to the other two is that it doesn't stay open if you open it beyond a certain point. Both of the others stay put when the door is opened a little beyond 90 degrees, which is useful if you are actively moving things in and out through the door. This is a good product if the hold-open deal is not important to you. It works fine otherwise.

I recently installed an automatic hydraulic door closer and overall, I’m very pleased with the product. However, I had to do a bit of homework online to get started, as the included instructions were somewhat lacking in detail.Firstly, I learned that “S” and “L” are closing speed adjustment valves for a commercial door closer. “S” indicates the sweep speed valve adjustment, and “L” indicates the latch speed valve adjustment. Both these valves should be pointed toward the hinge side of the door, regardless of whether you have a left or right-side opening door.I also discovered the difference between a normal install and a parallel arm mount. The box includes templates for both, but there’s no explanation of what they are. I recommend taking some time at the start to google “hydraulic door closer installation” to get a clearer understanding.Another useful tidbit is that you’ll need to drill a 9/64" hole for the wood screws (I don’t remember what the metal screws require). Once I had done my homework, the installation didn’t take long—about 30 minutes, including a modification to the arm (cutting it shorter to accommodate the molding around my door) and notching out for the swivel piece on top of the main box to fit correctly. I could have moved the template down an inch to accommodate it, but I decided it would be easier to use a Dremel tool to notch out the overhanging wood molding. Finally, it was fairly easy to use the “S” and “L” adjustments to get the swing and latching speeds just right. Overall, I really like the product and would recommend it to others but be prepared to do a bit of research before starting the installation.
