I purchased this at 1/2 price on black Friday because I was going to have a procedure which would not allow me to drag my Electrolux around the house, I wanted nothing to do with it and scoffed at it when it arrived, I thoroughly cleaned my house before my procedure. What disgusted me the most the first time I vacuumed my house with this Shark thing is how much dirt it picked up, I still don't know how that was possible, I am not some kind of slob. So here I am, it's April 1st and I still have not dragged the Electrolux out. I guess I don't have to, this Shark thing is light, powerful and very easy to use. I have a decent sized two-bedroom home with a large dining room and have never had the battery die on me. If you have a big home this might not be for you, you can have my Electrolux if you want to drag it around.

I've owned 2 shark rocket corded vacuums in the past. Both were great and lasted for years before burning up. I knew I wanted to go cordless but was quickly bombarded with products. I have a border collie so the hairless roll was a must. Because I have medium pile carpet as well as hard floors and tile, a soft roll was also an advantage. Finally, I'm lazy and literally would avoid vacuuming because I hated chasing the outlets around the house to power it. So cordless was a must. So I see the vertex fits all the requirements, plus comes with several handy attachments. This particular model of cordless Vertex has a detachable battery for charging which is a huge advantage over the model that doesn't. The final bonus was getting 2 batteries so one could always be charging. The decision was made; I bought the cordless vertex. As for performance: it is just as efficient as my corded Rocket was. The battery lasted my entire house, albeit only 1200 sq feet. Still I had the 2nd battery totally charged as backup but never needed. The dust cup empties just as easy as the rocket did. The hairless carpet roller was absolutely free of my dogs long hair. The soft roll made quick work of every speck without shooting it all over the floor. It cleans all the way to the wall. The attachments are all high quality and useful for under the fridge, stove and top of ceiling fan blades. It has a power boost trigger that I used but found I didn't really need to use it. All in all a fantastic vacuum. I picked it up on sale here so even better. Bottom line: buy it !

Our home has two dogs and two cats. Our Dyson V10 was so tempermental; forever taking apart the unit to cut pet hair from the floor brushes. The deal breaker was the internal filter; the vacuum would start and stop as though the battery wasn't charged, yet the filter was clean. We've been purchasing Dyson vacuum's, stick vacuums and even their hair products. I would still recommend Dyson for everything except their stick vacuum; we took a chance on the Shark and I could not be happier with it's performance and it's price!

After returning a 'basic' and then a 'mid' unit, I purchased the high-end machine. The first two did not have a removable battery, meaning that when the battery ultimately failed, I would either have to ship the entire unit for repair or trash it. Additionally, in order to complete 50-55 min. of floor vacuuming in one go, I require not one battery, but two. Why? First, because although advertised as a 60 minute battery, this only applies when the vacuum handheld; ie. not attached to the floor portion AND run on the lowest (eco) setting. The realistic charge length for this battery used to vacuum bare floors on mid-power is 40 minutes. Second, you should never run the battery down to zero charge, nor charge it completely. This decreases its lifetime. Running each battery from 80-20% charge is preferable, which means each battery should be used for no more than 30 minutes. Hence, 2 batteries are required to a 50-55 min. job.As others have warned, there's a learning curve with respect to the various button placements, because they change when the vacuum is folded vs upright. So it's easier than you think to release the dust cannister and drop it to the ground, when you intend to release the lock which unfolds the machine! My only concern with the Shark line is that models change so frequently that I doubt whether replacement batteries will be available in 4-5 years, when these finally expire.

This is the best vacuum I've owned and I've owned a few. They suck and this one doesn't. The batteries run for a long time, the suction is awesome, it's light and maneuverable, and not loud enough to wake the dead. It's easy to clean and enormously versatile. It works so well its almost embarrassing how much dirt my old vacuum left behind. It came with lots of accessories and a second battery. It folds in half for storage, which is an amazingly thoughtful and greatly appreciated feature. This was well worth the money as it cost a lot less than a Dyson and it works great!
