With three cats in the house and living in the south where pollen is an issue, I always wanted an air purifier. This Shark NeverChange Air Purifier Compact Pro had great reviews and was the perfect size for my bedroom. (I got the 250 sq. ft. model.) It is really a nice looking unit and getting started with it was a piece of cake. When I first turned it on in the automatic mode, I was puzzled as it showed 100 on the display, which indicates that the air is clear. That didn't seem possible as we hadn't vacuumed the bedroom for a week and the cats spend lots of time in the bedroom. I left it on overnight and it stayed at 100 so the purifier never ran. I then set it to the first level manually and left it overnight. When I checked the outer filter, I was surprised to see nothing trapped in it. I began to wonder if it was really working properly. I left it a level one for a couple of days. Then, I switched it to automatic again and suddenly it changed to 60 on the display and the purifier started running. It didn't take long to get back to 100. A couple of days later, it dropped to 60 again and started running at a higher level. I'm not sure what is affecting the air quality in my bedroom but I'm now satisfied that it works.I do like the compact size and the fact that it shouldn't need a new filter anytime soon is real bonus. I'll use this for a while and, if I'm satisfied that it is working well, I'll buy one of the larger ones for my living room.

This Shark air purifier replaces a dying decade+ old Germ Guardian filter in the bedroom. I loved the form factor of this unit - it's sturdy and doesn't feel tippy like the Germ Guardian and is much more compact than our Winix units in the office and living room that are rated for just a bit bigger room. This thing is also amazing power wise - even when the fan is on speed 5 (the highest it'll go), it was only drawing 15.2 watts. On the setting of 1 that I keep it on, it only uses 3.3 watts. If you don't have a very dusty environment and use it mainly for odor control, the eco setting only uses 1.3 watts when it doesn't have the fan on, and when it does kick it on to sample, it's only 2.3 watts. The display is great so I can visually see how good (or bad) the air is. It seems fairly accurate, and has kicked on when we expected it to - like when we had the oven on and a bit of cheese hit the bottom and started burning. There are two downsides to this filter - the noise and settings. This unit isn't as loud as the dying Germ Guardian (with the higher pitched bearing whine noise) but it seems way louder than the Winix filters. The noise is much higher pitched than the Winix, so the 33db that the Shark filter shows with my cheap meter on fan level 1 seems much more loud to my ears than the 32db that the Winix shows on low. If you're not sensitive to higher pitched noises or have lost that portion of your hearing, you probably would never get bothered by this unless the fan kicks onto high. At high speeds, at 3 inches away from the filter, it's about 65db.My second complaint is also one I have with the Winix, so it's in no way a real criticism of this Shark. I wish that there was a setting that I could keep the fan in automatic mode, but have a level that runs all of the time. I want this to filter air. Our house is old and has a huge dust problem. I want the filters running all of the time, not just when it detects something at one of the sample times. Unfortunately, you can't make it run all of the time and have the unit kick up the fan speed automatically when the air does get really bad. In my perfect world, the filter would have a setting that allowed for an auto minimum - I could set the filter speed, hit auto and have it not go below that fan speed, but it would kick it up if needed.Overall, this is a solid unit and as long as you understand it's size limitations, it'll be perfect for those smaller rooms you want to keep dust and allergens down in.

I bought this and when I first plugged it in , it said the air quality was 89%, I have it in the large master bedroom, after running for 6 hours it’s now at 0% - what the heck ! If it’s not at 90% or more by morning , it’s going back ! Not happy especially because of the price I paid, plus it is not quiet at all
