I've been playing euphonium for decades but started doubling tuba recently to fill a need in our community band. I bought a Mack Brass TU210 tuba, which more than fills the bill. I knew almost immediately, though, that the mouthpiece that came with the horn wasn't going to work for me, so I did some research and bought a Conn Helleberg mouthpiece. I had trouble with centering and pitch with the Helleberg in this tuba, so I determined it probably wouldn't work for me. I've been playing a Schilke 52D in my euphonium for years with good success, so I decided to try the Schilke in my tuba. When I put it in the horn, I noticed a significant improvement in my centering, pitch, and slurring. I think I found my mouthpiece. Everyone's experience is different, and I'm not saying that every euphonium doubler or everyone who plays this tuba or its clone cousins will have the same experience, but it might be worth a try.
