As the title says, the scanlines do look good, however it forces full range RGB, so when coupled with a scaler for old consoles like the N64, it causes an RGB mismatch and crushes blacks darkening the image too much.

The scanlines look nice, and you can customize them to a good extent with the rgb knobs. However, this product has a problem in which it causes the screen to shift to the left slightly. On my 27 inch acer monitor, this wasn't a big deal because it just meant that the black bars on the side of the screen were uneven (but nothing was cut off). However, on my Samsung TV, the image being shifted to the left caused stuff to get cut off. When I was using this scanline generator with a device that had a 1080p resolution (laptop), the only way around this was going into the tv settings and selecting "fit screen". If I did 4:3 aspect ratio instead, stuff would be cut off. However, if I was using a device that was 480p (Ps2 with line doubler), then there was no option on my TV to select fit screen, and it would be cut off no matter the setting. The only way around it would be to use a PS2 mod called GSM and shift the screen in the GSM settings. That seemed to fix the issue.I think the minimum resolution the scanline generator can accept is 480p. I used it together with a Retroscaler2x on PS2, which increases the PS2 resoultion to 480p. It works good, except for the screen being shifted to the left problem. When I turned off the console and tried to use it again, even if the switch is "on", you have to switch it off and on again to get the scanlines to display again. I did not need to use an external power supply.(I have seen this product priced at 27$ CDN , which I would recommend to try it. However I also saw it priced sometimes at 40$ or more, which is a bit expensive)Edit: Also, I noticed the device worked with a phone/laptop when using a usb c to hdmi male ugreen cable. When I used a usb c to hdmi female cable, it did not work and displayed a black screen.

It is difficult to find reviews and good technical details of this product. So let me clarify a few things:- it does NOT support 480i. So if you play on PS2 with an HDMI passthrough adapter that doesn't upscale the signal to 480p or better, you are out of luck. You will get a black screen.- it outputs at 1024x768. You read it right. This is an old 4:3 resolution that was really standard back in the days on PC CRT monitors but now I am surprised my TV can handle it properly... and it does but I have to adjust the image stretching settings on my TV to make it full screen- I am still stunted by this weird 1024x768 resolution output but it does NOT affect image quality on sub 4:3 1080p source resolution. I paired this adapter with my mClassic and it both look and work great.- it does NOT introduce discernible input lag- it allows you to tweak the scanlines to your liking. Making them bigger or smaller- it does NOT come with usb or hdmi cables- it works without powering it with a USB cable. I am not sure why and how this happen with my setup, though.- looking at video reviews online about these kind of scanline generator won't give you a proper idea of the image quality you will get. Not even remotely close to.I personnaly really like the produced scanlines from this adapter. You have to figure out your preferred settings first but once it is done you will surprisingly feel immersed with nostalgia. The "CRT effect", especially during playing action, is totally convincing. It does hide away or at least soften picture artifacts like strong aliasing you find on N64. You indeed sacrifice image clarity a bit. Adding scanlines to the picture is definitely a tradeoff and one I am totally happy to live with.UPDATE 2020-12-26: I paired this device with a PS2 hdmi cable. A one like the Pound cables which takes the RGB signal of the PS2 and convert it to HDMI. And then the problems began to show.1. this scanline generator expect to get a RGB "limited" image and it will output a RGB "full" image. In other words, I forgot to mention in my initial review that the image got darker. Not because I effectively introduced scanlines which will innevitably dim down the brightness but because the image looks to be converted to RGB "full". I have to manually set my TV to RGB "full" so the I get a faithfull image.2. The PS2 to HDMI cables that take the RGB signal instead of the Component like the one I got will also output the image to RGB "full" but will not tell my TV or the other devices connected afterwards correctly that it does so. I don't know for sure since I cannot debug the EDID data but I strongly suspect this is what's happening based on the testing I've done.So what do all this means for me on my PS2? Well, I definitely have to set my TV to RGB "full" anyway but when I pair my scanline with my PS2 cable, I still get a dark image and there's nothing I can do about it.I'm using Need for Speed Underground to help me "detect" the RGB "limited" vs "full" image since there is a "graphical option" with a black and gray logo which I totally cannot see the writing when the image is "full" RGB and my TV is on "limited" RGB.Long story short: I'm disapointed. This scanline generator produces a FABULOUS picture paired with my EON Super 64 + mCable when I set my TV to "full" RGB. And it looks as good at 480p on the supported PS2 games using my cheap component to HDMI dongle for PS2 and no GSM won't fix it for me since most games either won't work OR will be rendered at half the vertical resolution - i.e. 240p.UPDATE 2021-03-21: This device is definitely weird especially with it's behavior toward outputed image resolution. Anyways. Let me recommend a couple of things I learned the hard way:1. Calibrate your TV with something like the "240p test suite" and when you do so, do it with your scanlines generator connected because the image darkness is definitely impacted by the scanlines introduced by this device so you have to compensate for it. Be extra carefull with "detail enhancer" or "noise reduction" settings on your TV; disable them completely because they can strongly interfere with the image quality making your image even more darker.2. The scanlines look gorgeous and you want to share it with the rest of the world on the Internet but don't. Plug your scanlines generator AFTER your recording device so you are the only one who benefits from them locally and you don't mess-up with streaming quality. Basically you cannot assume the resolution which people will use to play your content so the scanlines will appear un-even or worst.3. Find a way to compare your setup with real CRT and do so with your own eyes. You will understand how much brighter and colorfull CRT is compared to LCD/LED panels and it will help you properly calibrate your flat TV.4. Don't apply the biggest width scanlines; yes they might look prettier at first but they are not faithfull and they massively mess with image quality making it darker.
