A few years back I bought a server rack which I didn’t realize was the networking rack in the depth was 17 1/2 inches. I subsequently bought a small server chassis and built a server in it, thinking that I could mount it easilyLo and behold, it’s been a nightmare. I finally found these rails, which are for 18 inches, in as you I also saw that it was a frequently returned itemBut I had to take some risk, because the server I had built was sitting on a shelf for almost 2 years. Honestly, it took a bit of effort, but I’m happy. I miss calculated and didn’t realize that the depth of my rack was only 17.5 inches, which means that this rail doesn’t exactly fit. I had to use a metal saw Trim some of the mountain ears, because they were overlapping because it’s so short. But after that, everything mountedOne thing I’ll note is that if you don’t use the hardware they provide for mounting those ears, you’re gonna have an issue if your server needs itself to be screwed to the rails, Which is why the hardware they provide is offset a little bitOverall, I feel confident this can hold the for you server, which isn’t too light. It’s been there for a week and it’s working well. The rails themselves are good, slide effortlesslyTook about 45 mins to install overall, and that’s with undoing the old rails I had.

I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to install these things and they ultimately didn't even work with my case.As noted in a different review for this item, the rail mounts with tapped holes as shown in both the listing images and the included instructions were not the rails provided with this kit. The kit comes with rail mounts that have a lot of room for adjustment and requires level 10 dexterity to hold the screw with washer and screwdriver in one hand while holding the mounting rail with washer and nut with the other hand. This was a miserable experience to have to do 8 times (four individual mounting rails with 2 screws each). The instructions are nearly useless and don't specify what screw/nut hardware to use for any step. What they do give you is two individual baggies with 60+ assorted screws, nuts, and washers and you just have to figure it out.Overall, stay away from this kit unless you just have to have this. It's a miserable experience to assemble and was even worse once I realized that the rails were so thick that I couldn't even use it with my case so I then had to undo all my work to return this abomination.

The instructions and the supplied hardware do not match the slides. The extentions are show with threaded inserts. The actual extentions have plain holes, rendering the hardware useless. The bigger issue is the slide releases. These a plastic. The plastic is so flimsy that it very difficult, if not impossible, to release the slides once installed. With metal releases, I would have given these 4 stars.

As another review posted on the 2U-8U version of these Tupavco rails, they are several mm too wide to mount a server to a standard rack. I was hopeful the other review would be wrong because shorter depth rails are a bit uncommon (needed for my 20" depth Echogear rack) and this seemed like the best choice. My 4U Chenbro RM42300-F chassis could not fit into the rails as designed, so I had to mount the ears behind the posts leaving them to wobble side to side. I can tell even with the added wiggle room this is still a strain on the rails because I can see them bowing slightly outward once I spent the 3 hours trying to get the chassis mounted. In the end I was able to mount it and it does slide in and out as I would expect, but it still bothers me that the ears don't wrap around the front as they should. Directions are also poorly printed, don't have an included hardware list, and are poorly written and confusing. If you find a better set of short rails that fit a Chenbro chassis and an Echogear rack let me know.

Double check that the rack you want to put these in has front and back posts. Sigh. So, these went into a different rack and are carrying a 4U server instead of the 2U one that I really wanted on slides. The install was without drama (other than my rack mistake). Everything works smoothly. The build quality seems fine, but maybe strong enough to trust them with a UPS, if it isn't too beastly. The slides do have ball bearings. That's not mentioned in the product description. You'd expect it to have ball bearings, but you never know what a manufacturer is going to try to slip by you these days.
