The cage basically last on average 2-years due to UV sun damage, but will fit 2-3 milkweed plants. I line the bottom with newspaper to make easy cleanup from the Monarch caterpillar frass which drop on the paper. Depending what stage you place the caterpillar instars, the mesh on the cage will keep out parasitic flies and wasps/hornets. The mesh on top allows the caterpillars to j-hang when the time comes. They seem to j-hang on the cage corners or if you place some shade (tape/paper, etc) secured over the top of the cage. The two zippers on the door allow for easy access and the clear plastic side panel for easy viewing. I place mine on the patio table sometimes with the umbrella up, depending on the sunlight for the milkweed. Great learning tool at a reasonable price. Plus you are aiding in the survival rate of Monarch butterflies.

Given as girt. Appears to be successful as its already had some butterflies hatch in it.

I bought this pop up enclosure after finding Eastern Black Swallowtail eggs on some dill back in June. After raising our first round of swallowtails, we ended up with our second round, then our third. We now have nearly 90 eggs that we’re waiting on. This enclosure works well enough that we bought a second one for housing chrysalises to keep them separate from growing caterpillars and I expect that we will likely buy a third soon. We found that folding and unfolding the pop up is very similar to our circular reflectors used in photography, so they are easy to transport, quick to set up and compact when not in use. I’ve included a few photos with this review showing this pop up enclosure in use, for reference.I found that this enclosure is sturdy enough for our purposes, but can lean a bit as you’re opening and closing the zippers and the first one that we purchased is just a little warped. IMHO, it’s helpful to make sure that you have it on a level surface, as this minimizes rocking while opening and closing the door. As for clean up, stains can be removed fairly easy with a mild 95:5 water to bleach solution and this also helps prevent illness and diseases from spreading. I don’t know what impact a mild bleaching would have on the black version of the enclosure, but it works fine on the white versions. We have the white model with the green trim and also white with blue trim. For anyone looking to raise butterflies and/or moths, this is easier to use than pop up hampers and has a tighter mesh to help keep other insects out and small caterpillars in. You can see the tight weave of the mesh in the last of the photos I have attached to this review. Definitely recommended.

I absolutely love this habitat cage for my Painted Lady Butterflies. I had 12 caterpillars in my care this time and the habitat I had been using for my butterflies was simply too small & had other other issues I really began to dislike. So, I decided to search for a better habitat this time around & decided on this particular one. VERY PLEASED WITH THIS HABITAT!! Absolutely everything I wanted and more. The two zippers on the side are absolutely awesome. Makes everything so much easier to do without disturbing the chrysalises. I really like having the vinyl side for a better view, plus it gives the option to have the vinyl side down for easier cleaning of any frass and meconium. Easily will fit a good amount of potted plants unlike the last habitat I had, which is just awesome. Easier to see through the mesh on this habitat as well compared to my previous habitat. Very well made and easy to fold back up when not in use. I really like the overall look of the habitat as well. I plan to buy again from this company again to get the 12x12x12 cube looking habitat next. I am very pleased with my purchase. The price and quality is absolutely amazing for this habitat. Myself and my butterflies are very satisfied with this purchase. Highly recommend buying from this company. I even liked they included a quick start guide for caring for your butterflies from eggs to butterfly phase. They also emailed me to let me know that if I had any questions or issues to please let them know and they would be glad to help. Always a good sign of a good company!

I got this cage for my monarch caterpillars after an assassin bug killed several on my swamp milkweed. I moved 12 of them inside, and got this cage for the bigger caterpillars, so they didn't harm the little guys. So far it has worked well - the zipper has worked, the caterpillars have climbed to the top to form chrysalides, and I'm about to hang some chrysalides that formed in another container from the mesh roof. The mesh is very fine, which is good for keeping caterpillars in, and other bugs out. This is my first batch of caterpillars using this enclosure, so I cannot comment on how easy it will be to re-fold the enclosure, or how easy it is to clean with a diluted bleach solution. It is easy to clean out otherwise. I just moved out all the caterpillars, picked up the paper towels I'd lined the enclosure with, and moved everyone back in. The enclosure provides good visibility, with one panel being clear plastic. All in all, it was a good purchase. The price was right, and I needed it in a pinch and got it delivered in two days with Prime.I ordered a second one when I found a ton of smaller caterpillars on my swamp milkweeds. So far everything has worked well. The second one seemed a bit more square, and maybe a little larger than the first, but both are working as intended. I bleached the first one after all my butterflies eclosed. I used "cleaning bleach" and the enclosure appears to be colour-fast (not that I cared about that), and it dries quickly. I've not got 8 chrysalides in the new container, and 5 J-hangers in the original purchase. I'm about to order a third to handle the next batch of 7 caterpillars that will be making chrysalides before the current 8 eclose. The shipping is fast, which is good because it seems like when I need one, I need it quickly.
