I got this to transfer some old cassettes to MP3 format... mainly non-music recordings (family get togethers, etc.), but also some 90s rock music tapes. I tried both methods (card and computer). While I believe that recording to the card was the easiest method, it also lacks in quality. Might be fine for dialog-only tapes, but the quality for music is pretty bad. You cannot choose 320 kbps... it automatically records at 128 or 192. I forget which. Far as I am aware, there is no way to change that. But you can record to your PC / Audacity software at 320 kbps. So, the sound quality is much better therein. The only downside it that it is far more involved, this method. Takes more work and time. In the end, it did what I hoped it would do... transfer some old silly family gathering tapes (from 1996) to files that everyone could listen to on their phone, iPod, PC, etc. I transferred one rock music tape also, but the sound quality was not that great, even at 320 kbps mp3 format. But that could be from the state of the actual cassette itself. Possibly degraded over time. Will try another tape one day and will update this review if necessary.

Minimal instructions but not too difficult to follow. Worked flawlessly. Converted 4 cassette recordings to digital easily and quickly. Sound quality was excellent and much better than I expected.

This is the 4th converter I've tried and the first to last more than two months (hence, 5 stars). I've had it for just over 4 months now and have digitized 33 C90/C110 cassettes (with 150+ to go). But you must use the micro SD card. The description & instructions are somewhat contradictory as to whether you can connect directly to your PC. You can't; not to a MacBook anyway. Instructions say the power cord will not pass thru the signal, so I tried a double-ended USB cord. It connected, but only in mono'. However, now that I'm accustomed to the SD card shuffle (my Mac doesn't have a micro SD port so I use an adapter), I prefer it to the direct connection of prior units. I had a problem with Audacity not reading the files (even though Music/ iTunes could) but the solution to that was to erase the SD files after transferring them to the computer.All my cassettes are 30-40 years old; early on it ate a few of them but I was able to salvage and redo them. No problems recently, but buy & use a cleaning kit.The speaker is very tinny but adequate for monitoring recording.I don't think it as Dolby (no TM logo) but you can use Audacity's Effect/Noise Removal/Noise Reduction function to clean up recordings: first, highlight a section of dead air (between songs) containing the noise, click Get Noise Profile, exit, then highlight everything from Start to End, go back into Noise Reduction and click OK. Sometimes, it helps to do it twice.

I needed to create an MP3 file from an old cassette tape so I purchased this. Man, I really thought this was a great bargain. It came with an Micro SD card and a way to play it via a USB adaptor. It worked flawlessly. My only complaint is the tinting on the cassette door is so dark, I could not see what direction the tape was at. I had to use a flashlight to see the tape. Lighten the tint on the door and this is a 10/10.
