It looked like a great idea but not! You can insert it through a 1/2" hole, but I couldn't pull it out at the top hole. The magnet end wouldn't make the turn to exit the wall cavity. A long metal light pull chain and a magnet did much better and were cheaper!

What a great tool to have if you are fishing lines through walls. It's straightforward to use. I had to buy a magnet, which you can find here on Amazon. It does exactly what it is supposed to do.

After using this with a 500lb magnet to run speaker wire inside a wall, I'm sold--this is the ONLY way to do that job. I drilled a small hole behind the speaker on the wall and another under directly below it under the baseboard. Took less than 5 minutes to run the wire. The bottom hole was covered up when I replaced the baseboard and the top hole got covered by the speaker mount, so I didn't even need to patch any drywall. Love this product.

The magnet moves down the wall easy because of its shape. The rare earth magnet is weak at best, Also very brittle. It cracked while in the provided case. I used my own 30 lb magnet to move it down the wall. I recommend using at least a 50 lb pull magnet. I didn't know if I would like the idea of magnetic fishing, but now that I know. I will buy a better setup. The product works, just not as well as its advertised.
