To be fair, this is my first pair of snake gaiters. The material on these babies is SUPER thick and I'd be very surprised if a snake could bite through them. Thickness does not make them heavy, surprisingly. These are made to be worn with boots, not shoes, as there is a small gap in coverage at the back where the hem of the gaiter hits the ankle. You should be able to slide them on after putting your boots on as well. These will definitely provide protection from snakes from ankle to knee and from thorny brush from ankle to thigh, but a person's height will determine just how much thigh will be protected. I'm 5'4" and these come almost to my top of the inside of my thigh. On a taller person, they won't come up as far. I am a bit concerned about the diameter sizing of the thigh area though. My thighs are pretty thick and although these go around them, I'm not sure they would comfortably fit a person with very large thighs as they do not stretch. Again, maybe they just won't be able to come up as far. To be clear, the reinforced, layered material does not extend to the chaps portion of the gaiter and the material there is not designed to protect against snake bites! The straps at the top that are made to attach to a belt are durable and sewn on extremely well. In the fall and in certain terrains year round, I believe these will provide good cover for those that hunt due to the color of the material. I also see where these would be very useful protection while hiking or exploring off the beaten path, so to speak. Four stars only because of my concerns about the sizing around the thigh. Three pairs in the pack make this an awesome value in my opinion. ALICIA APPROVED.

Very good quality. Got these for the outside work we do by swamp areas and forest areas. Fits well. Good price for 3 pairs.

Okay so I’m glad that I can’t say that I’ve tested these out against snake bites. They might of done the job but I would have still died of a heart attack. So what to say about these. Well I’m a hunter and have used snake guards for years. I’ve never purchased expensive name brands but I’ve always bought $50-60 pairs at the local big box stores like Academy. Out of all the pairs I’ve owned, I will honestly say that I like these the best. The reason is for this is that every snake guard I’ve owned was never this length. They always went just past my knee and that’s it. They usually contained 2 straps only and since I would cinch them down tight, the stitching would always come apart, rendering them useless after about 6 months. That’s not the case with these. You can tighten these up by the buckles and then they just click together and that’s great. I’ve been to my deer lease a few times and have felt totally comfortable with walking through tall grass and creeks and sketchy places where you just know snakes are. I have timber rattlers, water moccasins, coral snakes and copperheads at my deer lease and so these are a must. Now I’m not sure that it’s necessary to buy 3 pairs but maybe if you have a family and need a pair for the wife or kids, that would be a good reason to buy this 3 pack. I’m 5’11” and 185lbs and they are just the right size. I don’t really have anything negative to say about these except for the color. I live in Texas and the sun loves black.. If I were the manufacturer, I would make these in tan, camo or light brown. This black does tend to get a bit hot. However, deer season around here is in the fall where temps are a bit cooler and so if you only need them for hunting season, you probably won’t mind the black color. Anyway, I do recommend these for sure.

These are not ok. first and most importantly they only stop snake bites in a small area. there is plastic strips sewed into the fabric running vertically and there is huge gaps in-between them. I rook a sewing needle and was easily able to poke many holes into it. these are going to get someone hurt giving the a false sense of confidence. Also they are extremely small and wouldn't even fit me. also the snake proof section, if that's what you want to call it, only comes up tp the knee.
