I bought this system because I wanted RAID redundancy and my Dad and I both bought the same systems intending to backup also save our backups to each other's NASs remotely. QNAP says this a a core feature and has software to do it. Every step of the step of for this product has been incredibly difficult. My dad is an electrical engineer who designed tech systems at a university and I am a fairly tech savvy analyst who is used to troubleshooting problems and this set up has driven us crazy. We follow what seems to be simple, clear, if sparse, directions on QNAP's website and run in to problem after problem. Some we have solved with a few hours of trouble shooting. Backing up to each other we still have not been able to solve after days of trouble shooting and messaging back and forth with QNAP support, with so far mediocre assistance from QNAP. While I can get basic connectivity from the drive and have the RAID redundancy for my backup, this has so far turned out to be a really expensive and time-wasting external drive. Do yourself a favor and just by a couple of plug-and-play external drives for your home backup needs if not an IT professional.

This could be a great product but the instruction's are wrong, confusing, and useless. There is no setup sequence, no correct map of where to go, what to run etc. You have to download at least one application and two users manuals. It does not tell you which. After 4 hours I still did not have an exportable folder. They have a hundred apps, but no information on them, it changed the password without me telling it. They want, but you can block, to collect all your config AND USAGE data. Like I am going to tell China everything about my computer? With a strait forward step by step setup, it could be great. Instead, I returned it! Am I just an old fool? Maybe but I have set up and managed petabyte SANs on supercomputers. I know what has to happen.

Nice unit from QNAP. My issues are weird things happening. Folders automatically generate named in Spanish, apps disappear, loaded QSYNC now folders gone in File Station. I have changed passwords, rebuilt folders, .. if it came with some boot loader virus?

I bought this in hopes to be able to back up my MacBook, phone, etc, and to back up to another NAS in another state. If you are not an IT pro DON'T buy this. Support has not been helpful. I used online videos to get as far as i have. I wish that I could get help to get this to work like I had hoped.

The physical set up was easy; however, the overall setup was difficult to get it to work. I routinely ran into problems and had to resort to googling and hoping to find something on reddit to configure the drive. Would not purchase again
