I put this contact point on a cheap import indicator with a mag base. I use it to set the blade and roller heights in my wood planer, and it works great for that. Just double check the thread on your indicator, 4-48 UNF is common but there are other standards too.

So how do you indicate threads on a lathe to deepen or extend the threads .You have to have one of these tips and they have to be set up square to the z axis.Two points of indication one by the chuck and one at the other end of the threads varifies you are running round and on the centerline.A must have for thread work or any uneven stock to skate over areas to give you an average to start your turns.So cheap you can keep a spare or give to your apprentice.Every machinist needs these.I even modified one to work with my sylvac digital indicator to measure turbine diaphragm blade drops in a timely manner.What once took me hours to map out now takes minutes.Worth it get you one or two I bet you will find many uses....
