Few years after publication, and several new books on the topic, this is still the best introduction to the theory of Bayesian networks and covers topics of learning and reasoning

This was a good read. I referenced this book repeatedly for my stab at the NetFlix prize and for a pokerbot. I won't need to point out that I am not the winner of the Netflix prize... but I understand the various BellKor solutions because of this book - a few others as well, but this is a good start. I thought the treatment of information theory as it applied to these learning models was accessible and helpful. I found the treatment in Chapter 9 of incomplete data and Gibb's sampling to be very relevant to my poker project.Certainly worth the $40ish I paid for it.
