It's a lot more delicate than advertised. The washer on the bottom of the clamp is very soft and got bent after one use and rendered the whole thing useless. The part wasn't replaceable so the manufacturer sent me a new one but I'm only using it for very light tasks at this point so it doesn't end up in a landfill as well.

I have had this item for years. it is definitely better than nothing.1.) THE biggest, most important weak point is the soft steel washer mounted at the end of the clamp shaft. 100% total crap. The washer does nothing, the clamp will drive its narrow head right through a lot of types of materials as you try to screw it down. You will need a small piece of hard steel to fit under the surface you are clamping to. It will need to be thick enough to be strong but thin enough to fit depending on the thickness of what you are clamping to. It's a good idea for it to have some length as it will steady to vise and spread the clamping force. A scrap piece of angle iron would be a pretty commonly avaiIable choice if you can find it. I guess a thick aluminum could work a few times before it is destroyed.2.) This vise IS NOT 3 inches wide. It measures exactly 70mm wide at the jaws, which is 2.75 inches.I bought some magnetic , rubber lined jaws (here on amazon,Shop Fox D3229) that are 3.5 inches wide that work pretty well as long as you don't get carried away trying to overtighten. 'Shop Fox' branded.I did successfully build an upper and lower with this along with a magwell inserted vise clamp and a cheap upper vise clamp. Most recently, I have used it at my desk to cut down some aluminum drawer pulls. So it is good to have around. Small and easily put away. So ultimately kinda handy to have. The vise and jaws cost $24.54 total on here in 2013, so they have increased significantly. But, your money is worth roughly 2/3 of what it was in 2013 so there's that.

After reading reviews saying that the jaws weren't very strong I was hesitant to order the vise because I wanted to use this for making knives which requires a lot of sawing and filing. I decided to buy it and try it out and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. The table clamp is very strong and doesn't wiggle or move at all about the table and the jaws hold the metal firmly without any slipping. Great product.

Vises aren't too technical, and this one is perfect. I use it to replace graphite golf shafts and the rubber clamp protector fits and works perfect. The mouth is smooth, and I do get a little slip from it though. Also, the screw clamp isn't big enough to clamp to my work bench. Otherwise, this is a good vise.

The Pony Light-Duty Clamp-on vise does exactly what it's supposed to do. It securely clamps material to be worked on. My first project using the clamp was sharpening a 22-inch lawn mower blade. The Pony vise clamped securely to a 2 by 8 shelf. It held the mower blade tight with no movement at all as I sharpened it with a rough file. The vise is compact but surprisingly sturdy. I tried clamping a 2 by 4 piece of wood in the vise, and it held firm as well. Obviously, this is not a tool for heavy jobs, since it is simply not that large. But for light-duty household work, it's a fine tool at a good price.
