Something odd with the listing for this item. When I first got them, the description said they were to protect against snake bites among the other description details that i still see listed. There was a review complaining about it not being snake bite proof and now that review is gone. Then, the description for these gaiters dissappeared for a day or so, then the current description appears. This makes me suspicious.That said, these are fine for what they are. They will give your pant legs extra protection against getting wet and stickies (thorns) in them. As for snake bite protection, "maybe" against a garter snake but that's about it. Any rattler or copperhead is going right through these so don't use them for that; get dedicated snake bite gaiters instead.

I regularly enjoy hiking in the forest, but always seem to battle chiggers and ticks even when using insect repellent. The gaiters have adjustable boot straps and velcro closures for a snug fit around my hiking pants and under my hiking boots. They also include a metal clips to hook into book laces to ensure the gaiters stay in lace. The inside fabric is like plastic to alleviate moisture coming inside. The outdoorsy camouflage pattern blends in perfectly with my khaki and natural green hiking gear. The gaiters are made from a durable material which may even help prevent wildlife bites, in the event I accidentally startle a snake or something when hiking in the woods.

These Leg Gators are easy to put on over pants and boots. The Velcro strip is thick and runs from top to bottom to close around the shins securely. There is a strap at the top of each to help adjust the size around the top of the calves, and a handy little hook on the bottom front of each to hook to your boots’ shoelaces to help hold the gaiters down and in place. There are a couple of concerns that I do have. The bottom strap that slides under my boot is very long and needs to be cut off to avoid stepping on and tripping over or getting hung up on branches and ground undergrowth. The material of the gaiters is rather thin, so I would hate to actually get bitten by one of the copperheads, water moccasins, or rattle snakes that we encounter around here. Though, these are probably great for protection against tall, wet grass and in places with lots of burrs, thorns, and ticks. Also, though both my husband and I both fall into the same size range listed and had no problems putting these on, I feel that someone with larger calves would maybe have a hard time getting the Velcro to overlap completely to close.
